Future Mrs.Hall, on May 9, 2013 at 7:02 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 17

Has anyone had their wedding at an aquarium? Preferably Camdens Adventure Aquarium or Baltimore Aquarium? someone mentioned these as options which i think sounds pretty awesome, fun and different Smiley smile we will have kids attending the wedding.

I was wondering what it was like? good and bad, and pricing

I've seen pictures of a wedding at an aquarium and they had penguins walking around! But I've not personally been to one.

I've personally never been, but my uncle went to a function in an aquarium and the two complaints he had were: 1. It was dark and hard to see and 2. It kind of smelled funny. Not saying it's not a unique and potentially really cool idea, just some things to keep in mind.

Never heard of it, but it would be amazing! That would be my favorite wedding to be at as a guest.

I wanted to have our reception at Adventure Aquarium in Camden, unfortunately we decided on it just because it was an hour commute from our ceremony location.

The aquarium facilities are very nice and clean, as is the ballroom. The special occasions staff was also very helpful and seemed to be accommodating.

If I remember correctly, they said we had to spend a minimum of $8K to have our reception there.

I looked into it where we live. It was right on the beach which would have been awesome! We are in NC but i was suprised that it costs no different then any other venue. They had two levels and an outside patio area that you could rent. For us the rent the whole aquarium it was $3500 and guest could stroll throughout for 5 hrs. Just go in their website or give them a call. Doesn't hurt to ask.

I think it's really fun but as a previous poster mentioned, I've heard it's AWFUL for photography.

If you have, say, the reception there (where you care less about the pictures than the ceremony... I'm assuming of course) that might work! But be wary of the actual ceremony (unless you maybe do it outside or in a lighter area first?)

We also looked into Adventure Aquarium, but at the end of the day it was just a little bit too far from us.

And most of the photos I've seen from weddings there have actually been INCREDIBLE! This one happens to be my fav: http://www.litratophoto.com/blog/?p=981

I've also seen the photos from the wedding Lirana was talking about and they are pretty awesome too. The person who had the penguins walking around actually wanted the penguins there, it wasn't a bad thing. Smiley smile

I've always wanted to go to a wedding at the Baltimore Aquarium, but I'm not cool enough to know someone who has had one. Smiley sad

Mrs. Clark had an aquarium wedding complete with ring bearers. I haven't seen her on here much lately but you can try searching the forums to see if you can find anything she posted about her's.

I looked into the Baltimore Aquarium. It was $2100 for their fourth floor package (one from for ceremony/reception, one for cocktail hour/reception). It sounded great, but what got me was that you couldn't even start anything until 7 PM, so that meant that dinner wouldn't be until 8 at the earliest, which is too late for most of my guest list. We were still considering it as a good option until we went with Ocean City (lots of personal history there).

The two catering options were both reasonably priced and looked awesome!

They also allow people to get married right next to the dolphin tank (the underwater portion), but you have to have your reception in the really big room next to it because the music would scare the dolphins. A great option for a big guest list, though!

Just think of all the photo ops! And the cocktail hour space that they keep open for the reception is part of the jellyfish exhibit, I think, which would be really fun for guests.

I've been to the Camden aquarium. It's nice, but I think the one in Baltimore may be even nicer and larger. As some of the other posters already said, aquariums don't have the best lighting for photos, though, but I'd still definitely look into it because a good photographer will make it work no matter what the lighting situation may be. That sounds like a great idea!

There are some lovely photo opts both inside and out. I looked into the adventure aquarium (Camden) a year or so before I was actually engaged. Im not positive that it was the camden aquarium, but one that I was looking at allowed an outdoor reception (might have been long island aquarium now that I think about it).

If you look all the way to the right there are a couple documents with information.

I'm sure it would be really fun and different! One of my best friends got married at the zoo, and it was the most fun wedding I've ever attended. Sure, it may smell and whatnot, but your guests will be entertained. Rather than just standing around during cocktail hour, they can check out all the fishies. I would enjoy an aquarium as a guest, but it's probably not for everyone.

This is really amazing. Planning to gift an aquarium to my sister. Her wedding was just the same like yours. I guess she will like it and remember all the memories again. Thus many sources like

aquaristic online will also help her maintain the aquarium at home at its best.
