Anyone used StoryMixMedia for DIY Videography?

Bee, on May 4, 2013 at 10:26 PM Posted in Planning 1 17

I never thought twice about having videography, I just didnt want to pay for it. But I just found this site where you can get a camera and phone apps for unlimited amounts of smart phones so your family can video it. Has anyone used it? It seems like a cool idea I am seriously considering. You get a one hour video, but the other things you get I dont really understand. I will call them but just wondering anyone else'x experiences. Thanks

*UPDATE*- I ordered my cameras! I got two cameras and the app for everyone's phone with an hour video +all the raw footage for 300$, plue 48$ shipping (yikes!) You can make a list of shots you would like to get and your guests can get those specific shots for you if they want or they can just shoot footage as they please. You can make is a photo scavenger hunt to get all the shots! :-)

Anyone use any kind of videography service like this? Where you send in video shot by a novice and they edit....?

I haven't thought about a videographer either because of the expense... But this sounds GREAT!!! Can't wait to have a peak at the site!

This could be cute! I don't think our guests would utlize it enough to make it worth it though.

I am thinking I am going to do this, because if you compare a novice video to NO video... one is clearly better than the other, right? I emailed them and they said the phone app can be used on as many smart phones as you want, I have two people in mind who would be willing to do 15 minutes or more, so that is 30 minutes. If I can get five other people to do ten minutes each that is more than the 60 minute video so some can be edited out. I will let you know how it goes. I think since video is not extremely important to me (but would be nice to have) this is probably a good choice. :-) I will let the family know to download the app.

I will let you all know how it goes when I get back from the wedding!

I hope it works out well. Lol I was reading their site and I saw something that says "uncle filming your wedding?" haha which I think is what we are doing. Our ceremony will be an hour itself though.

    We used them!!

Here is a link to our trailer! http://youtu.be/ejH5SYDFrDw

I would highly recommend using them if a traditional videographer is out of your budget. And even if it is in your budget, I still wouldn't trade this video we have for anything! We had a destination wedding in Mexico and it was so nice to have video of our entire 9 day trip instead of just a few hours.

I also wrote a review about them on my blog if you're interested in reading it:

Thanks Savanah! I actually reserved two cameras and the app today! I am so glad I did because they only had four left for my date!:-0 I have only told a few friend about it so far but I have one who is so excited she has already downloaded it and tested it out (she is so sweet!) she will do a cam, and we will give the other cam to someone else and print the how to guide to put at the tables too so everyone can join in. I think we are going to get a lot of footage and it has really really brightened my week to know I am getting videography, which was something I never planned on having. Its like winning a small lottery! I watched a lot of videos and I will be thrilled with mine if it turns out llike those. Also I have a lot of tecnically inclined guests so I get a good feeling it will be good. YAY!

L would suggest checking into wedflik.com! They have the same concept but no app and they give you 5 cameras automatically!

I compared the quality of video online (samples) from StoryMix and Wedflik (as well as a few other sites), and in my honest opinion, StoryMix had the BEST quality videos with the nicest editing! Seeing their sample has definitely swayed me in their favor, and their customer service is super friendly and accommodating in my experience thus far. I wasn't originally planning on having videography, but now I'm really glad that these types of services will make it possible. I'm excited to use StoryMix, and I'll let you all know how it turns out!

I used them and was disappointed that they charge a huge amount extra to edit the videos for you. It's very diceptive. You ha e to put together the entire video yourself!!

The technology has changed a LOT since this original post. In fact, we've created a new web app called BlushDrop www.blushdrop.com

We think the quality of smartphones like the iPhone6 is astonishing, so we created a way for all of your friends and family to anonymously upload their smartphone or tablet video.

No special cameras. No shipping. No apps. We don't even ask for your guests to create an account with passwords! You sign up and get a link where guests upload everything.

You can pre-edit the footage or just send it to us and our editors with 10+ years experience will edit it for you.

I'm curious to hear what you think of our new service.

My issue was that you charged me a lot more money for your people to professionally edit the footage. You advertise your service as an editing service, which is discounted because my guests shoot the footage. When actually it turned out I paid several hundred bucks for you to send me cameras and have a central location to upload the footage. I could have created my own hashtag and platform for free. Then there was an extra fee for you to edit it, when all along you advertise that as your main service. So I ended up editing the thing myself which was very time consuming and annoying to have to do. I could have paid $300 less, collected video footage from friends and family and made the video myself, which is basically what I ended up doing. I will say your customer service people were very polite which was a plus

Hi Bee. I think you're confusing us with someone else.

We just launched our product this month in 2016. We were doing some research on DIY Wedding Video and saw this original post and thought we'd chime in. I'm sorry to hear your DIY experience wasn't perfect.
