Anyone on NuvaRing?

Oh So, on May 18, 2011 at 4:24 PM Posted in Honeymoon 0 16

So I went for a physical today and we talked about birth control Smiley smile

She recommended NuvaRing and gave me a sample to start after my period.

Is anyone else on NuvaRing? What should I know? Do you like it? Anyone try it and didn't like it?

(you can tell I was listening carefully to what she was saying lol)

P.s. Never been on birth control or even thought about it! Yikes! That's weird! Smiley tongue

Yep, I'm on it and I love it. Ive been on BC for about 10 years and just reciently changed over to the Nuvaring from the pill. The only thing you may experience is a bit of weight gain if you have never been on BC before. I love the ring because you only have one application a month, so you don't have to remember to take it every day. It is pain free, you don't even know that it is there (well I don't anyways). Hope that helps a bit.

Im not on it, but my MOH is and she LOVES it...she takes it because she's horrible at remembering things, and she swears by it... I myself use the pill, but if I had issues remembering to take it, Id def. go on the ring..She's been on for about 5 years now... shes never had any complaints. Smiley smile

I have been on nuvaring before and I love it. I'm currently on the shot but will be switching back to nuvaring. I love that you will know when you'll get your period and I haven't experienced any hormonal changes. Everyone's body is different so I can't comment about that but it is great besides pills and the patch. It states that it does tend to come during sex or if you have a bowel movement but if that happens you just rinse it with warm water and insert it back in. That, again, has never happened to me and everyone is different but I do recommend it.

I'm on it and I've had no problems with it.. I've never had it come out and I never really feel it once its in place properly. My doctor told me it was ok to keep it in place for 4 weeks then replace it immediately without having the week without (period week) and I've been doing that now for 6 months!! Love not having a period! There is a chance that it will effect your sex drive, I've only had that problem for one month not sure if it had to due with the ring or not but I've heard others say that it was bad for theirs. Personally I would recommend it

My only complaint is the cost.. I'm with Kaiser and its $90 for 3 months (the pill is much cheaper I just hate taking them)

So you will be getting your period every month that week that you don't have the ring on?

Is there a way to skip a period? My dr. said something about it but I don't really have the best memory (WOW I CAN'T BELIEVE I FORGOT EVERYTHING SHE SAID!). All I remember was she said was "she wouldn't recommend skipping a whole year without your period"....

I can't seem to find any info on this :/

If you replace the ring immediately and don't take it out for a week you will skip your periods... My doc didnt' say anything about not doing it for a year but I'm older and not sure we will be trying for another. Its not something we have ruled out but if we don't have one we will be fine. So I'm not too worried about it, technically there is no medical or health reason to have a period every month , its really only necessary if you want to have a baby.

Yep thats right Oh so s. The week you take it out then you get your peroid. As said by Victoria, you can keep it in for 4 weeks and then change right away to a new ring to skip a peroid (no peroid for 2 months). I however like getting my peroid every month, as I was told the longer you go without your peroid, then the higher the possibility of weight gain. The other thing I forgot to mention that Victoria did was the change in sex drive. Ive experienced it a bit, but nothing too extreme.

    * granted the weight gain is from case to case and doesn't happen to everyone.

I was on Nuva Ring and liked it - At first. I LOVED not having to remember to take a pill. I simply put a star on my calendar on the days I needed to take it out. Sadly, I was one of the cases where it severely started to affect my sex drive and..come, on, what's the point of BC if you don't have a sex drive? It also made me very moody (read: B****y). After about 8 months, I spoke to my doctor and switched to a pill. I was taking Jolessa, the generic version of Seasonal (Only get a period every 3 months). That worked well for me.

About 3 months ago, FH and I decided to stop BC altogether and "see what happens" LOL.

I was on it until Sept. I liked it, although I think it interfered with sex. DH could feel it and I think it got in the way of things on my end too. I say that because since I've been off it (9 months), I've noticed a difference (and a great one at that!). That said, I would still recommend it, because I believe you can just take it out beforehand and just replace it immediately after if you are bothered by it (check with your doc, as I'm not 100% sure on that).

I'm on it and love it. I have noticed a change in my hair texture. I had extremely thick hair and it has begun to shed more. Not to the point of thinning but it sheds. The Nuvaring also helps moderate my moods. Without hormones... ok let's just not think about that. :-)

I was, didn't like it, too many side-effects for me. Moodiness, sensitivity (in a bad way), pain... so I stopped using it, and so happy I did.

I tried the nuvaring and I didn't like it. It made me crankier than not being on BC and WAYYY more emotional. Also, it was really hard for me to get "frisky" with FH because it would tend to fall out during intercourse. I also had it slip out a couple times while going to the bathroom; maybe I didn't "insert" it correctly. Good luck with it though, I have heard alot of good thing's about it, as many of the woman above were saying.
