Anyone NOT having the wedding they always dreamed of?

So are any of you not having the wedding you always wanted and if so, why? Did your desires change, and if not, how are you dealing with the unmet expectations?

In a sense I am not. It wasn't supposed to be this big, I kind of wanted to elope /destination wedding . To top it off there is a lot of drama that isn't making the experience be all I thought it would be. But at the end of the day I am marrying the love of my life so it's all worth it.

My dream wedding was a low budget casual event. However, having the people we loved attend was the most important thing to my FH and me. Once we made a guest list we realized our original plan would be impossible given the size of the list, since we would need to properly host. We ended up going more traditional and I'm so excited!

I never dreamed of what my wedding would be like. Then my husband and I had to quickly elope for health insurance. Once we eloped I realized I wanted my friends and family there and a big party to celebrate. So now we're planning that for a year after the elopement. I don't regret eloping though, it was still the most special day and absolutely perfect and stress free!!!

Of course! My dream wedding would be at my family's Church in the Azores. Instead, we had a traditional wedding at home in the US because that's where the majority of our family and friends live. We weren't willing to ask everyone to travel just to have our dream vision come true.

It's not like I'm not having what I want but I didn't expect the planning to be as stressful as it has been.

I'm not - I have always wanted a beach wedding. We selected our date because it is the 19-year anniversary of our first date. FH did not want an outdoor wedding but would consider one if it was on a beach since I am a "beach" person. Anyway we looked into venues at the beach area near us and found out that our weekend is the largest motorcycle rally - second only to Sturgis. We have nothing against bikers but it would be very difficult to get discounted hotel blocks (why discount when there is a huge need) and traffic would awful. We didn't want to do a destination wedding just for the beach so we are having a traditional indoor ballroom type affair.

I wanted my family to be there. Unfortunatly due to various circumstances I'll only have my two sets of grandparents on my mom's side and an aunt who doesn't really talk to me

I wanted an outdoor vintage rustic wedding and a reception including all my close family and friends so we could dance and drink the night away.

Getting married at the courthouse and having a small dinner with just my immediate family instead.

I'm ok with this. I really am. We just can't afford the bigger wedding and my future husband is applying for the Coast Guard so we figured after a 3 year engagement that we would just go for it.

Me. But I never dreamed about my wedding- so eh.

I wanted a beautiful event- and I wanted to treat my family well. And I got that. And pretty pictures- soooooo got it. But it wasn't really what I "dreamed" of.

But I still got married- so win win.

I wanted to basically elope and be wed somewhere in the mountains, with trees and water. Net month we will be wed on a golf course with 125 people. The few things that transferred from vision to reality was the outdoor requirement and that we will be married at the end.

I started this post to see if others were having the same issues I am. I didn't really have a site for the wedding in mind. My FH really wanted to get married in the Catholic church, so we are. I really wanted a traditional wedding dress. When I was married years ago, I wore a street length dress I bought off the rack. Got married in my Aunt's house and the cake was equivalent to a birthday cake.

With this wedding, the most disappointing thing of all is I wanted all of my friends to be there and several aren't coming. I personally think most of the reasons are lame, but I know others on here would say "no one owes you anything". And while that is completely true, it shows you who your friends are.

I'm sure it will be beautiful and fly by. The best thing is marrying my FH and our honeymoon afterwards. Thanks for all of your responses.

I wanted to elope to SF city hall. Its beautiful and I really liked the idea of just us, an officiant, and a photographer. Now we are doing an intimate reception of 70 people in the Santa Cruz mountains because FH really wanted family and friends to be a part of the day. I'm liking the way things are turing out so far even though its not what I originally wanted.
