anyone NOT having an engagement party?

We got engaged this past September and never had an engagement party. I read in a lot of magazines that other people THROW you a party, and on one did. But it seems like everyone I know is having engagement parties.. Is it necessary?

We did not have one either because we would rather put the money towards the wedding.

We're not having one, or at least we havent yet. i guess it might be a good idea because our parents havent met, but that is a rough issue bc my parents are recently divorced and dont like to be in the same place, so rather than exclude half the family or have two parties..im just going to put off all the awkwardness til the wedding. we would like to get our bridal party together if we can, buut, thats a separate issue *sigh*

We didn't have one. I think we may have had one if nit for the fact that his birthday was so close to when he proposed. He proposed to me 11/29/08, and while he was planning that, I was planning his 30th surpirse party. So a few weeks after our engagement, he had his party w/ all our friends and family. Some actually brought gifts, though! Smiley smile

I never had one. But usually I think it would be the parents of the bride who do that and it took a couple months for my mom to warm up to the idea of me getting married. By the time she was cool with the whole wedding thing, we were past the point of an engagement party

No I never had one either.

No one offered to throw one for us and i thought rather than spending the money on the party, it was better to go to the wedding.

No engagement party or bridal shower. We're putting the money toward other wedding necessities.

I am, however, having a bachelorette party and would greatly appreciate if i got some feedback on my current dilema.

My friend told me I should book an appointment with this charter service in Miami called Action Catamarans. It came highly recommended and it looks like it would be the perfect bachelorette party. What is everyone's opinion should I make an appointment for the chartered day trip? Are there any suggestions as alternative? Keep in mind my group of friends does not want to go out at night and would rather a relaxing, pampering bachelorette party.

Let me know what you think and thanks for the help Smiley smile

My fiance and I aren't big party people. We aren't having one, but I say the choice is yours.

A friend was supposed to be throwing us one in two weeks, but it got cancelled due to money issues. Which I totally don't mind, b/c I didn't think it was that big of a deal anyway.

I'm not having an engagement party, shower, or hen night. We have been together 10 years the marriage is just to make our commitment legal and the wedding is mostly for our daughter/ families. At this point I'd rather elope and take a really long vacation.

My fiance and I weren't too big on the idea of an engagement party, so we aren't having one. We just opted to have a nice breakfast with the parents instead. =)
