Anyone knitting or crocheting anything for the wedding?

Charlene, on February 5, 2023 at 7:17 PM Posted in Do It Yourself 0 7

I really like to crochet. I have been doing it since high school and I would like to crochet something for the wedding. I was thinking maybe crocheting some stuff as bridesmaid gifts. I can't decide whether or not I want to make hats or scarves in their favorite colors. I do know I should probably start soon so I have enough time to make them without too much stress before. I have been looking on Ravelry for a few different patterns and I have some idea what I want. There is this thing in the knitting/crocheting community about being "knitworthy" and I know most of the people I want as my bridesmaids would definitely appreciate that, especially if I do a design that is intricate enough (I am pretty experienced so it usually isn't a problem for me)

I have also seen people do stuff like make doilies for centerpieces and shawls to wear, bouquets, and ring bearer pillows and stuff. One person in my knitting/crochet group tried to make a shawl for her wedding, but ended up not finishing it until three years later.

What about you guys?

Crocheter here! I really wanted to crochet something for my wedding, but I just ran out of time and never even started. I wanted to crochet a shawl or maybe even a garter (I like working with thread) but I kept putting it off that it never got started.

I have seen pictures of people crocheting their flowers, though!

I think shawls might be nice Smiley smile considering your wedding is in November.

Are you a fast crocheter? I love the idea of doing shawls, and I think they'd be perfect for a fall wedding, but I crochet SO SLOWLY that it never would have happened in time for the wedding. If you're doing a memory table, gift table, or something like that, I think a doily for that would be a neat addition.

I'm thinking of attempting to make some flowers. If they turn out well I may make enough to turn into a bouquet(s).

    That's awesome!

I got a few vintage patterns to make crochet flowers (as well as some other flower patterns, but those are more for applique). I did find a good shawl pattern on Ravelry that reminds me of King Ghidorah that I might make. I will have to go to the LYS to get some of the fancy fingering weight yarn now, hopefully they have some in gold or I can make a special order.

I have noticed though that certain local yarn stores tend to not be super welcoming to crocheters due to the stereotype of them using cheap yarn and the fact that because crocheting takes up more yarn that they aren't willing to invest in quality yarn and I have even heard that some of them tell crocheters to "Get lost" or "this is only knitting yarn (what?)" even though crocheters would make bigger sales and if they are at the yarn store, they are clearly interested in wanting to purchase something potentially. It never made sense to me with local yarn stores being snobby.

I love this! Years ago I was in a friend's wedding who was a knitter. She knitted everyone little clutches with a crocheted flower accent she attached. It's one of the favorite wedding gifts I've ever received and I still have it!
