Anyone having Jack and Jill thrown for them?

Is anyone having a jack and Jill thrown for them? I'm getting married in June 2018 and MOH mentioned doing one in October due to the potential for snow during the month of March when it would typically be thrown. Is that too far away from the wedding? And is this something that people even do...

Is that too far away from the wedding? And is this something that people even do anymore? Thanks for your feedback.

There is 2 versions of Jack and Jill. There is the old school Jack and Jill which is like a bridal shower but for the couple. Then there is the NEW version which is a fundraiser. From her first few messages it sounds like she's talking about the Old School one which is just a shower for the couple. That one is perfectly fine if someone wants to do that for you.

Is this a co-ed shower? then that's fine.

If it's a fundraiser, then that's tacky and I'd decline. In my area, the terms are used interchangeably

These are so crass. They make me cringe when I see people asking for stuff for them on the FB sites I'm on. You are basically asking for other people to pay for your wedding. You are not a charity. Pay for your own shit.

Let me be clear. I don't need anyone paying for our wedding. We own a house, have great jobs, are paying for our own wedding and honeymoon. We have everything we need which is why we didn't want gifts. Just a chance to celebrate and have fun. I was not imlying that it was in ANY way a fundraiser. So, Yes raffles. Like a you win this raffle. No tickets. That is the way I understood it from my MOH, We will not be asking for money or gifts. I simply posted it because I wasn't sure if people still did things like this and what they were all about these days and wanted to get some feedback which I did get.

So these are basically just standard shower favors/game prizes. That was super unclear from your original comment.

A couples shower is fine. Charging guests for anything is not. That's the bottom line.

    It does that. Often.

From what it sounds like, I think you're fine. Just sounds like a couple's shower with some games and prizes. Which, is still done. No one was suggesting oyu're having others pay for you wedding. Just be sure you communicate with your MOH and you should be good.

    From Dictionary.com:

a means of raising money by selling numbered tickets, one or some of which are subsequently drawn at random, the holder or holders of such tickets winning a prize.

Soooooooo you don't mean raffle... you just want to know if you can have a Co ed celebration where instead of guests giving you gifts, you give them gifts.

Sounds great, go for it. Just don't *sell* anything.

I am pretty sure by raffle - she really means games. Like the games you play at any Bridal Shower where some of your guests win prizes and the Jack and Jill - is really just co-ed celebration. Which can't you just do an engagement party?

Raffles mean buying tickets for having the chance to win something. Fundraisers use raffles to, you know, raise funds. That is why your posts are super unclear. Now it makes no sense as to what this actually is. It sounds like either you don't really know that it IS actually a fundraiser or you are now just trying to back peddle after the negative comments.
