Anyone ever decorate a fake cake ?

Christina, on March 8, 2020 at 3:55 PM Posted in Do It Yourself 0 4
So there is a place I know of that makes amazing cake bu they don’t do wedding cakes. But they do sheet cakes. Honestly the cake is to die for. I hate sweets but I love this cake and have to have it. So I thought about making a fake cake for decorating. Has anyone ever done this ? Any luck ? Suggestions advice ?

Could they decorate a single tier for your cutting cake? Or could you do a single tier from another bakery for your cutting cake and sheet cakes from the original bakery to serve to guests? I've seen people decorate foam cakes for weddings, but paying someone (likely hundreds of dollars) to decorate something that's literally going to go in the trash seems silly.

I did it quite a few years ago. Made a friends wedding cake this way. Just bought some big, styrofoam rounds and covered them in fondant. Stacked them on top of each other and put wooden rods in them to hold it together. Lined up the spots that didn’t look great so we covered them in fake flowers. It was less than $100 this way.

Hey Christina Smiley smile I believe it is possible to rent a fake wedding cake, as opposed to buying one. This could work for you! You could then serve the sheet cake to guests!

Where about are you planning the wedding?
