Anyone else a chubby bride?

Cassie, on July 3, 2015 at 3:23 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 33

I am a bit on 'fluffy' side...its never bothered me before...until i went and picked out my wedding dress...now all i feel is fat and ugly...and totally jealous of all the thin girls in their dresses. Any advice on dealing with this, or feeling beautiful in my dress as a chubby bride?

I don't like using the word chubby unless I'm talking about puppies or babies so I'll say "curvy". Smiley winking I am, and always have been, curvy. I have big boobs, a big butt and thighs, and large hips... Though i'm only 5ft tall I have enough for two. I dealt with this by picking a dress that showed up my small waist and my back, while covering up my chest and falling loosely from my waist. I guess they call it "A-line"? I don't know. But that's where I was with it. But as I was trying on dresses I began not caring what the other brides looked like in their dresses because I knew they probably wanted to change something about themselves too. you just have to try and love yourself and think, "Man, FH is going to think I'm SO SEXY in this dang dress!" Smiley winking

I struggle with this on a regular basis. Just remember your FH loves you no matter what and youll be fine. Keep in mind bridal dress sizes are different than normal pant sizes and that you deserve to feel beautiful on your wedding.

I'm a little beyond the words chubby and fluffy - but the only thing/advice would be to remember that your FH loves you exactly the way you are. He thinks you are beautiful no matter what.

The fact is we're all built different. The world would be pretty boring otherwise. Plus, just because someone is thin, doesn't mean they are perfect. Everyone has their imperfections.

You will look amazing on your wedding day. Because you will be glowing with happiness.

I hate the word chubby. FH would love me in a mermaid gown that was fitting in the middle, but it looked horrible on me and I got a ball gown I love and hides my stomach that I hate. He just doesn't know better b/c he's a man, but I know he'll love it when he sees me.

I would recommend to try on a variety of styles. I'm tall and athletic looking, but still "chunky", and definitely not slender! I'm solid, lol. I tried on a few dresses, and fell in love with a short dress that was somewhat a ballgown. It nipped in at the waist, accentuated my beautiful neck and shoulders, and showed off my calves.

What parts of your body do you like to accentuate? I would think about what you already like about yourself, and try on dresses that show off those parts. Open your mind to lots of styles. Remember that, no matter what your size, you will be absolutely beautiful and glowing on your wedding day. Thin or curvy, the most beautiful thing about a bride is her smile as she marries her partner.

I already got my dress...I love it! Its an A line ball gown...it fits nicely and hides my large chest, and makes my waist look small. My mom took pictures, and I loved them, until I noticed how big my arms are, and i could see in the mirror behind me that i have back fat in it )= I still love my dress though, and feel like a princess in it. I am just trying to tone up my arms and back now.

I describe myself as "solid" too, Mrs. A & J (though my genes screwed me in the hight department - I reached 5ft tall and stopped there...). I am constantly self conscious. It drives FH crazy because I loves me for me and every part of me. I haven't begun dress shopping yet, but I have a feeling I'm going to experience similar emotions to OP, Cassie. It's hard not to compare myself to other women. Even if I had the perfectly slender body type, though, I'd still only be 5ft tall, so there will always be something about myself I can pick on! I'm sure it's this way with a lot of women. We just have to remember that our SOs picked us (and we picked them) for a reason. We love each other wholly and completely, fluffy or not Smiley smile My FH is like yours, Emma & Aaron; he wants to see me in mermaid, but he doesn't understand that my short stature doesn't quite allow me to pull it off - let alone how self-conscious I would be with my "solid" body type. Men don't know the struggle, they just know what they want to see us in. FH has made it clear he wants me to try to "flaunt what I've got" as much as possible. I roll my eyes at him.

I have this same problem. I'm definitely on the bigger side, and am planning to try and at least tone up my arms before the wedding. I'm kinda counting on my veil to help cover the back a bit. But at the end of the day, I'm not likely to drop 100lbs before the wedding, or even get my arms close to where I'd like them to be. I've just kind of accepted that. I know FH thinks I'm beautiful, and I can't wait for him to see me in my dress. I also know that, looking at pictures of BAMs here, even when the bride is on the heavier side, I personally never notice that, even though they're strangers and not people I'm naturally inclined to view favorably. Everyone always looks beautiful and happy!

Oh I know exactly what you mean. I went to try on dresses and got depressed after seeing the size tag. I know they're going to be larger than street clothes but still...

What I tell myself - FH fell in love with me the way I am and doesn't expect me to walk down the aisle after losing 30 lbs. Either way he'll think I'm beautiful and will love me.

No matter the size, I truly believe wedding dresses look beautiful on ANY girl and I'm sure you look absolutely beautiful and you'll take your FH's breath away. =)

I've always been super skinny growing up, but the last few years I've packed on some pounds and every time I see myself in a picture I'm disappointed. I've been working out and eating healthy on and off since last September, but when I saw the pictures of me when I tried wedding dresses on I wasn't happy with my arms and back and now I am super self conscious of my arms. Other people may not notice, but it's something I'm not happy with and I am determined to get to a point that I am happy to see myself in pictures again.

p.s. you look wonderful in your dress!

You look amazing in this dress! I am glad I came across this post. I have been feeling pretty bad lately about gaining weight and am worried my dress will look terrible when I go in fo my first fitting this month. Looking at your photos made me realize that other people will not see all of the little things I criticize myself for, just the bride in a beautiful gown.

CASSIE! You look so beautiful in your dress!!!!!

I struggle with my weight, and have for years. I had actually dropped 25 pounds last year, but this January, when my kidney started acting up again, I stopped working out. I still eat well, but I've lost all my tone in my arms...

Now I when I see pictures of myself, I'm disgusted, but I have to remember that my FH loves me the way I am.

He's told me a million times that he wouldn't care if I put on 100 more pounds (as long as I'm healthy, he doesn't care about "fat"), because I'll always be beautiful to him.

You have a little time before your wedding if you*want* to do some push ups or weights to tone up your arms, but I personally think you look absolutely stunning the way you are.

    Smiley laugh

I haven't ever seen a bride, regardless of her weight and height, who has not looked absolutely radiant on her wedding day. They all look beautiful to me.

Cassie, that gown looks beautiful on you.
