Anyone changing from heels at ceremony to flats at reception?? I need some help!

lindsay, on January 19, 2015 at 11:32 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 32

I am wearing a 3.5 in heel at the ceremony but then wanted to change into flats to be more comfortable at my reception.

However, at my dress fitting, the lady told me that my dress would be dragging quite a bit (which makes sense) so now I am in need of finding a heel/wedge that is comfortable enough to dance in and be standing for a long time in that is around 3.5 inches (not less than 2).

Anybody have the same problem? Any ideas or suggestions?1

That's what I'm planning to do! I guess I'm just planning to hold my dress up, cuz I'm not wearing heels for that long, it's just not possible!

That's my plan too... I just can't do heels for a long time so I'd be miserable if I can't change them out- or find a wedge I can wear the whole time. But so far no luck finding any comfortable wedges that I like so who knows what I'll end up doing

My heels are quite high. But I'm changing into flats as well... I'm just going to let my dress drag Smiley smile

Get wedge or platform flip flops! They will be under your dress so no one will see them. Or you can put rhinestones or something to that effect on them!

My heels friends are the little gel inserts, they really help me. As for other shoes look got a part form so the weight is not all on the balls of your feet. Lol I might just have my dress hemmed so it shows my does for a bit just so I can wear something comfy later.

What if you got the dress hemmed for the flats? Yes it would be too short for the heels. But if you are only planning on wearing them for the ceremony it shouldn't be a big deal. The ceremony is 15 minutes to an hour tops.

    Can't you bustle your dress?

That's my plan as well. I won't be able to stand almost an hour for the ceremony and dance in my heels??? I'm going to wear at least 4 inch heel......... NO WAY!!!! My dress will be dragging a bit as well, but my wedding planner will be able to bustle my dress in the back as well as little bit on the side (she will pin it with safety pins and make the pins not show) so that I don't have to worry about my dress being dragged and stepping on the dress.

I was planning on bringing both my heels and flats to my first fitting to see if they would be able to alter my dress for both shoes. I don't know if its possible but I'm going to give it a try.

I'm doing the same, too! If you pin the dress properly it won't be too bad.. No one will notice by then if cocktail hour is open bar Smiley smile

TBH if your dress is hemmed to the floor it drags a little bit anyway if you are doing anything other than walking perfectly straight and slowly. You have to hold it to walk up stairs and definitely to dance. So I wouldn't worry about it too much.

If my feet hold out.. I'll leave the heels on. Otherwise, I want to do something like these converse sneakers. My dress will have a bustle.

I am wearing 3.5 inch heels for our DW wedding and wedge flip flops for the reception. I took both pair with me to my fitting. There is only 1/2 inch difference in the two pair of shoes. Here is a pic of the reception sandals. The wedges are actually pretty comfortable.

I'm wearing a 2 inch-ish heel for the ceremony and flats for the reception. I plan on getting my dress hemmed for the flats, because at the last second I may change my mind and not wear the heels at all.

Oh that's absolutely what I did! I made sure to get really comfy inserts to last the night as long as possible and then went to flip flops... and not gonna lie, by the end of the night I was just in bare feet and I didn't have a care in the world about my dress. ha!

I bought these and I love them. So comfortable. The black fits with my colors, but they have all nude if you don't like that.
