Any other sororities with wedding traditions?

Trevor, on October 19, 2017 at 3:25 PM Posted in Planning 0 31

So I was speaking with some of my sorority sisters and they reminded me that there's a tradition in our sorority (Chi Omega) where the sisters surround the bride, holding hands, and sing a particular song and sort of "send her off" into married life. It got me thinking, are there any other sororities with wedding traditions? I'm assuming there probably are!

Omg that's frickin cute (from a fellow sorority girl, ADPi!!) I know in mine there's traditions for engagement or lavalier, like passing around a candle while singing a song and the lucky girl blows out the candle last. you should definitely get "group" photos at your wedding. we did a military photo and both college photos.

I know about the candle pass but otherwise nothing else. I only have a handful of sorority sisters who will be invited. I don't really have any interest in tying my college, Greek life heavily into my wedding day. FH is also Greek and I was lavaliered by his fraternity. I was the chapter president but still it just doesn't seem like the place or time to be doing chants or make a big fuss over it, in my opinion.

I think getting a picture together or putting lavaliers on the bouquet is a nice though.

@MrsBeetoBe We had similar things with lavs!

@Anne That's so random but so cool! I love finding out about all the different traditions!

    @Amanda Hey sister!

@Spaghetti Right! I like your subtle ideas. Definitely won't suddenly start "forming the Chi" in the middle of the reception! I went to college in the US for just one year on a study abroad program, so most of my American friends are through Greek life!

Hey! I'm a Alpha Sigma Tau! We did candles pass if the girl was still in school or in grad school. Aside from that, idk because very few girls got engaged while still in school.

Unfortunately I didn't have any of my sister's at my wedding (very intimate wedding). My little did get married a week and a day before me though (eloped) so that was special :-)

Yeah it's totally random and I have no idea where it came from lol.

ETA: I only invited 2 of my sorority sisters to my wedding so we didn't do anything.

We also had some traditions, but Im not really doing any of them- I will take a picture with the 2 girls I invited, but I'm over 10 years out of college, so I don't talk (other than facebook) to many of my sorority sister's anymore.

We get a little glass bowl at initiation, which gets filled with rose petals whenever we get them through various sorority events, and then we're supposed to sprinkle the dried petals somewhere on our wedding day ( I don't remember where exactly), but I don't think anyone really does that unless they get married in or right after college... I think I threw mine out Smiley tongue

@QueSeraSera wow that's different! I can't imagine many people would hold on to them for long enough to actually do that!

My sorority usually sings a sweet song to the bride at the reception, but the few girls I'm inviting know that I definitely do not want them to do that... I love my sisterhood, but don't feel the need to make a point of it at my wedding. No judgement for those that do, though!

@Charley Yeah I'm not 100% on what I'll do with it yet! I'm really liking the subtle ideas PPs have mentioned so might go with some of those instead!

Agree that I wouldn't want a huge thing to draw attention to it! Maybe something more private will work!

I'm a DG and a lot of sisters have told me they sing the same some we do for candle passings. But I don't think we have any official wedding rituals. I know people have pinned their badge on their bouquet or under the dress

Also an ADPI. Our chapter has a few traditions but I don't think the overall sorority does other than the candle pass.

We have a chapter song that might get played and my best friend and Little plan to pin my bouquet with their pins.

FH is a Delt and will most likely get branded with a pop tab at his bachelor party.

CHI O!!! Hi sister Smiley smile

IDK if I want Shades at my wedding it always makes me sad lol.

I read a cool idea that was to put carnations out for sisters to pin on themselves at the wedding to indicate sisterhood! You'd probably want a lot of girls though lol there will only be 4 of us at my wedding.

I am a Theta and H was in Lambda Chi Alpha. We didn't do anything special at our wedding aside from me and one of my sorority sisters kiting hubby in the photo booth. I meant to pin my badge on my bouquet but completely forgot. Oops. I think we have a song for weddings and maybe a few other things that I forget. Girls still in college do the candle pass.

We had two girls get engaged while I was in school but I don't think we did anything special except celebrate.

@Laura I don't think I have ever not cried at shades! I hadn't thought of using carnations, that's something that could be easy to incorporate without being over the top.
