Any ideas for how to include pets in the wedding (without having them there)?

purplekitten, on February 25, 2015 at 3:53 PM Posted in Planning 0 14

Our mutual obsession with cats is part of what led my fiance and I to want to get to know each other better when we first met. Our two cats are extremely important to us, but we're having a destination wedding and obviously won't have the kitties around.

We're super sad that we won't get to include them in any wedding or getting ready photos, so we want to somehow incorporate their importance to us in the ceremony or more likely, the reception.

I just can't come up with any good ideas, though. Ladies?

I have a little figurine of our cat that will poke out from our cake. I had it made on Etsy.....here is link to the girl's website that made it for me. That is MY actual cat Sox in the photos. She started selling these from the idea I gave her!

The 2nd pic is how I got the idea!

^ oh my word. That is too cute! That person did a really great job.

I'm in the exact same boat... our lab Coal would go nutzo at a wedding, if he were even allowed. I've commissioned a little felt replica of him that will have strings attached to hold our rings around his "collar". We're working in a ring warming ceremony, so the little felt version of Coal will be held by our friends and family. Before we decided this, I thought of maybe putting his picture in a locket and attaching it to my bouquet.

We moved from San Francisco to San Antonio recently, and one of the deciding factors was that we couldn't find a place in SF that would allow dogs. It sounds so silly, but we really knew we needed a dog to be complete!

I also second the idea of incorporating the cats into the cake! I thought this was adorable: http://www.amazon.com/Bouquet-Silhouette-Wedding-Topper-Bride/dp/B00P87WCE2 But we ended up going with something else.

I feel like the cake is the part of the wedding that you can actually play around with and go nuts. If you have time, ordering from that etsy seller so the kitties can pop out of the cake is a great idea! Smiley smile

LOVE that cake idea! I showed it to FH and he says we must have it! haha I'm thinking we will incorporate our two kittens into the word games/cocktail hour activities. If not that then they will be one of the table numbers haha

Edit: I liked it so much so I have already emailed our bakery! Now I REALLY must have it!! haha

I came across this and thought it was adorable for a cake topper... https://www.etsy.com/listing/188697704/custom-wedding-cake-topper-bride-groom?ref=shop_home_active_23

So I'm using that as inspiration and making our own in a similar way with our two dogs in it. I drew us on our save the dates/invitations so I'm really excited how it'll bring it all together

Cat figures as your cake topper?

Something cute cat-related for the favors?

In lieu of favors, make a donation to an animal/cat rescue or your local humane society, and post that information on a card or sign at your reception.

Another great idea is a charm with their photo that will fit in your bouquet or the grooms boutonniere.

    @Monica - that's adorable!

@Sara - I have that exact cake topper bookmarked! I ended up buying this one, though: http://images.weddingcollectibles.com/P.cache.x1/***************************************@**.*** (I had SUCH a hard time finding it because they don't make it any more, but my dad is an ebay jedi!)

@annakay - We're planning on doing welcome bags as our favors, so yeah, maybe we should include something cat-related.... I really want to use our kitties, though, rather than just... some kind of random cats. As for a donation, I don't know... I'd be afraid it would come off as "selfish", since we already both volunteer at an animal shelter and foster kittens for them (one of our previous fosters is in my profile photo.... she helped FH propose!)

@belinda - that's a super cute idea! Maybe one for my bouquet with my kitty and one for his boutonniere with his kitty!

Maybe you can frame some pictures of your cats and place them at the reception maybe on the place card table or the cake table or your guestbook table??? I love the idea of adding pictures to your bouquet and I love the cake topper idea.

I'm sure we are going to incorporate our little Fiona in our engagement photos somehow, so there will be pictures of us with her with some of our decorations. I'd love to have her there but she's a little shit when it comes to loving attention so I just see her barking and whining (she is a beagle mix after all) or jumping on people. That and someone would have to hold onto her and I don't feel like that's fair to ask (even though my FH is all about it and doesn't care about inconveniencing anybody because we should have our "child" there...I think he likes her more than me sometimes Smiley tongue). But just look at this face!

Many of my couples include pet blessings in their ceremonies.

My fave though? one of my couples (the bride was a vet) used dog breed photos instead of table numbers. Their escort cards were dog bone shaped sugar cookies with tags of the photos. They tipped the bartenders privately, and they had dog bowls on the bar; all the 'tips' went to their local 11th hour rescue. (They did not have cards or announce this, but word traveled word of mouth.)

When I mention family, I include the pets' names in the ceremony.
