Any advice on using popular/common songs for wedding video?

Leah, on June 25, 2018 at 5:10 PM Posted in Planning 0 6

I was married on 06/15/2018 & I am really struggling with picking our music for our wedding highlight video. Our videographer suggested 3 websites to use to select music, all copyright free music. I Totally understand the logistics of this & why the copyright free music is necessary, however, I am totally confused because I have seen several videos in their portfolios, as well as other videos posted by other reputable videographers, using common/popular songs. Has anyone else run into this or have a better understanding on how it is possible? Also, any suggestions on songs that are copyright free that any other brides have used would be really helpful! I would like something soft & moody for the beginning, then something very upbeat, for the dancing portion of the video. All advice is very much appreciated!

“Happy” by Pharrell Williams or “Can’t stop the feeling” by Justin Timberlake could be fun for the upbeat one.

For the soft song, you could do “a thousand years” by Christina Perri, or “shameless” by dan and shay, or “perfect” by ed Sheehan.

Theres so so many beautiful choices, but those are some of my favorites! Smiley smile

I believe the videos with popular songs either the videographer or the couple bought the license to. I don’t understand entirely, but maybe ask the videographer about the licensing so that you could use different songs. There are some old threads if you search “copyright music” or “music license” on here.

You have to buy a license to use a copyrighted song. I want to say they cost about $180, if I remember correctly from my research.

Personally, I like the generic, copyright-free music. I don't want to have my wedding video forever linked to some trendy song like Perfect.

Oh no I agree completely. I definitely wouldn't use anything I have ever heard on the radio. The song I really wanted to use for the soft part was by an indie singer, never on the radio or anything but I guess somewhat well known if you're into that kind of music. But I couldn't find that on those sites unfortunately.

Yea a lot of people like to put their highlight video on Facebook and YouTube. So the owner is saving you a flag on YouTube and themselves. That is why you have to have copyright free music. Anyone who does have copyrighted music has either paid for it or used it illegally.

The copyright fee also depends on where youvget it from. I do videography, and recently bought the latest software for this product, and it came with an option to buyvmusic with the copyrights. For me it is $10 per song, but I did pay $200 for the software. I do get 10 free songs though. I dont knos the cost otherwise
