Am I being a crappy friend?

A friend of mine's wedding is next week. They're cool people and all but in order for me to attend, I am required to bring a dish. Yes, pot luck wedding. I'm really not into this but don't want to be a crappy friend. Wwyd? I've already been a crappy friend cause I missed the RSVP deadline and...

You can have "something come up" and leave.

You don't have to supply food for 100. Bring one tray of food, consider that your gift and bounce after the ceremony.

    Or just RSVP no

I also had a classmate who was an amazing baker and would always bring things in for class. Then one day she openly laughed at someone for washing their hands after peeing, and called them a germaphobe. Reason #236 that I have food trust issues.

@levchuck I haven't spoken to the others I know- they aren't friends just former co-workers (who still work with the groom)

@fallbride to be fair it was a facebook invite and I totally forgot, too. It's not like they have to give a caterer a head count. but that's an excellent Idea. they haven't even asked me personally.. just tagged me in a list of people who haven't RSVP'ed yet.

I guess it would depend on how close you are. Is this someone that you'll be inviting to your wedding; someone who you'd really hope to be in attendance? If you're close to her, I would go, but either bring something small and only eat that or leave early. JJ's suggestion of taking them out to dinner after the wedding also sounds like a good way to. But if this is someone that you're not close to, I wouldn't go.

Beachdream- That is a meme that's been on the internet for a while. I think your friend was just kidding when they used it. Unless maybe she started it but I don't think so.

A facebook invite and tagging people who haven't RSVP'd is also tacky as fuck.

@OGK, that may be true, I'm not sure. But still, this picture indicates that there are people who think it is okay to store food in a kitty litter tub and put it in a shared fridge.

If I remember I think it was a joke and was labeled, "how to get co-workers to not eat your food". But I could be mistaken.

ETA: I REALLLY REALLY REALLY REALLY hope that is not real or I have no hope for humanity.

I am going to a potluck reception at the end of March and I have to bring crockpot meatballs. I am not planning on eating anything and leaving early. I am dreading this wedding so much. If she wasn't a very close friend, I wouldn't go.

It's not programming; it's FIRST of all, an appalling lack of kindness and respect for the guests. It's dangerous (the time lines of wedding are different than making a salad and bringing it to a church potluck, though I even hate that), you have zero idea who knows how to cook or transport food safely, an investment in any kind of food for 100 is too much (which is why so many people volunteer to bring the rolls) and the meal will be disorganized and ugly. There is also the chaos and lateness factors; you can't invite 50 couples (for the sake of argument) and get that discombobulated meal on the table without delays; it's just not possible.

It's a ridiculously bad idea and I still say 'no' is the answer.

The kitty litter bucket photo is too much! If you want to go, just take something that won't get disgusting in the heat - like pretzel sticks and mustard for dipping.

Ugh, that is irritating. if it is a close friend, i would probably just attend for a little while and plan to eat at home after the wedding. otherwise, i would skip it.

Wait the invites were Facebook invites AND it's a potluck for that many people?!?! Nope - I'd bounce after the ceremony and just say you felt sick. Which wouldn't be a complete lie lol

I actually passed on a baby shower once because it was a Facebook invite. I'm sorry... I know you're just inviting me to get a gift (I haven't seen this gal since was a baby), so the least you could do is mail a damn invitiation.

For a wedding? A potluck wedding? I would have RSVP'ed "no" immediately.
