Alterations - What did you change?

Sandra, on February 17, 2021 at 11:12 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 2 51

Have you ever had the bridal boutique/seamstress tell you they can basically change almost anything about your dress for you? It’s a bit overwhelming lol. What changes did you/will you make to your dress? Show me if you have before/afters!

My boutique (Chernaya Bridal House in Miami - highly recommend!) offered detachable cap sleeves and a detachable crinoline under skirt all included, as well as pretty much anything else I want done to it. Too many options. 🙈 Leads me to my follow up question. The dress in the first picture is the one I chose. I am considering altering the neckline from the mild sweetheart it is now, to the deeper sweetheart shown in the second photo. Am I just changing things because they told me I could or do you all think it would look better that way? I do lean towards it but also don’t want to mess too much with a good thing.

If you plan to do a religious ceremony, ask the person in charge if that’s okay. Many churches I know have a strict rule for revealing neckline. Otherwise, the second neckline is better looking 😉

I like the second neckline! The seamstress at the boutique I went to basically said the same thing, but because of the cost I just went with the basics and didn't actually change anything. A hem, taking in the dress slightly and a bustle was almost $600 😩 In my opinion, if you have to make major changes to a dress in order for you to love it, you might as well just look for another dress!

I personally like the neckline of the 1st dress, but they both look lovely. I guess the question would be how much is the alteration and do you like the deeper neckline for $$$ more.

Any and all alterations were included in the price of the dress. That’s why I’m like, am I just doing this because it’s included or because I actually want to? 😂 They also offered to make the bodice more or less sheer.

The dress looks beautiful as is. You look absolutely stunning in it! I do prefer the deeper neckline though. I don’t think I would personally change anything else. The dress is perfect!

Sorry if this is dumb but are they two different dresses? Why not just purchase the second one? The deeper neck line looks much better

The dress looks gorgeous on you as is! My concern with altering the neckline would be “what about the dancing etc- would it hold you in?”

That’s a great point but luckily for this case we are doing a non-religious, outdoor ceremony. Thank you! 😊

Not dumb at all! I fell in love with the little floral appliqués of dress #1 and although it’s hard to tell in the photo, dress #2 was *very* sparkly lol. So it wasn’t really in the running for me but I’m glad I tried it on for the difference in neckline.

Ouch yea that’s a lot extra! I wouldn’t bother if it wasn’t included, for sure. I totally agree! She showed me a few dresses and basically said, oh well we can change this, remove this, add this, etc etc. I was like, ahh why would I want this one then?! Lol

Thank you! That is an excellent point, especially because I’m on the bustier side. I would need them rather secured for dancing. 😆 I will ask the boutique!

I hate corsets! My dress came with a corset so I had it changed into a zipper and the. I added buttons down the back of the dress.

I love the neckline on the second. How are you going to be wearing your hair? Having it up might make you feel differently about what alterations you want , compared to having it down like in the photos.

I may be in the minority here, but in general, apart from sleeves and other minor modifications, I don't think that the original design of a dress should be changed; imo they tend to look the best as they were intended. Sometimes I wonder if shops push the alterations option to get people to buy dresses that they're not 100% sold on, but I definitely think you made the right decision here! Absolutely LOVE the first dress as-is on you! It's honestly one of the prettiest dresses I've seen. But the neckline decision ultimately comes down to your personal preference. It's not too drastic of a change, and would still look nice. Good luck!

The dress looks lovely on you as is! But I think the deeper sweetheart would look really good! Also I love the idea of adding cap sleeves I am also wanting to add them onto my dress once it gets in!
