Alteration recommendations needed - Westchester NY *semi-urgent*

The New Mrs. F, on April 22, 2017 at 11:33 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 9

I am desperately in need of any personal recommendations that anyone can provide in the Westchester area... long story short, my dress has been at the tailors since the end of January, I went in for a fitting yesterday only to find out that the seamstress was in a horrible car accident last week. Since she won't be returning to work, her assistant could only guarantee an 85% chance that the dress will be finished in time for the wedding. Obviously not her fault, but I have to move the dress asap! I've considered a few places in nyc (beyond bespoke, etc) but know that with the extreme rush job it's going to cost a fortune. If anyone has had a great experience with timely and semi-reasonable prices I would love to hear where you went!

I don't have any help, but I'm sorry you're going through this!

Hmmm...most pro vendors have relationships with other personally approved vendors they can count on, in the event of a personal emergency, who will give the client the same level of expertise that they would. Have you asked for a name from the original vendor?

Is there anything in your contract, as there is in our contract, that promises you such assurance in the event of an emergency?

ETA: I'm very familar with Westchester County. It's an expensive, upscale suburb of NYC, and there are plenty of ladies who live in that county who rely on seamstresses and designers for the formal charity balls and weddings they regularly attend.. If you can't get a name from your vendor, get busy looking up seamstresses who have stellar reviews. They're out there -- I promise.

@Jacqui thank you! I'm trying to focus on finding a solution and less panic lol

@rachel I'm sure that the original seamstress could have recommended someone, but the girl who was filling in was brand new and very unhelpful. I found this place through a similar search but wanted a recommendation from a bride for quality assuranceSmiley smile even though this was an unexpected accident I'm afraid there's no time for any other mistakes

I know it will be a bit of a hike, but if you are willing to travel to Long Island, Alterations Unlimited By Gina is amazing. There are reviews on WW. She has rushed things for me and has an experienced team. Another option, that I have done is to go to a department store that has a bridal salon and ask if they will be able to provide alterations.

Where in Westchester are you looking? Upper Westchester by Mt. Kisco is Be Unique Boutique. There's Svetlana Bridal Coture in Larchmont, and Time Tailor over in White Plains. They're all really well rated and have some great reviews.

@NikNak - I'm in lower Westchester but Larchmont and White Plains are both do-able. I was going to give Time Tailor a call today, thanks for the info!

I know some people that have had great experiences with Pins & Needles in Rye for the wedding gown alterations!

Update: I did find a new seamstress and LOVE her!! Tailor Box in Hartsdale - she is very reasonable and detail oriented, I can't wait to see my dress when it's done in a few weeks!
