I am new to WW. I am already (civil wedding) married, but I am having a religious (church) ceremony. The whole engagement picture, party.

Honestly I have no idea where to start.

If you are already married you should skip the engagement party and bridal shower. You can still do couple pictures that way you have them if you want to use the pictures for the invitations to your vow renewal.

Yes, what Ali said. You are already married, so while this is your religious ceremony, it is also a vow renewal or a celebration of marriage.

You should skip the typical wedding things like engagement parties and bridal showed/bachelorette parties, as these are considered inappropriate unless you are not already married. Additionally, vow renewals typically don't include a bridal party or traditional things like first dances or tosses like the bouquet and garter toss at the reception.

    Beyond that, go for it.

I am in a similar situation. We are skipping all the pre wedding activity and just doing the ceremony and reception. It's more like a celebration of marriage and the merging of two families.

Need more info. What religion? Does your pastor know you're already married? What's the time difference between actual wedding and religious blessing?

T-Rex my husband and I got married by the civil court about 6 years ago, and planning a religious ceremony for next August. Yes, the Pastor at our church already knows we are married.

If you have been married for 6 years, isn't this a vow renewal?

I'm usually all for getting legally married first and having a ceremony/reception with the whole nine yards shortly after. The key word there is "shortly". After six years of marriage, you are having a vow renewal. In this case, listen to everything @mna said.

After six years, it's a renewal.

Yes you're having a renewal. It would seem odd if after six years of marriage you're going backwards to have all the pre-wedding stuff like bachelorette, bridal shower and "engagement" party. The ship has sailed on that stuff.

You can still have a very nice vow renewal with your church ceremony and a reception following. It won't be a wedding though.

It would be very tacky to have an engagement party, bridal shower, bachelorette party, etc. - as @Jacks said, the ship has already sailed on all of that, because you are already married. Not only that, but have been married for several years. For the same reason, you wouldn't do "engagement" pictures because you aren't engaged, you're married.

You can still plan a traditional vow renewal ceremony and reception, but it should be called a vow renewal and "celebration of marriage", not a wedding.

Also, please change your avatar to something other than the generic rings (the avatar is not the same as the background pic on the app). That helps us get to know you from other new members (but it doesn't have to be a picture of your face, if you want to remain private). The generic rings are also associated with spam/trolls, so changing it will help you get more responses. Here's how: Settings > Profile and Privacy Settings > Account Image > Change Image > Upload > Update Profile Settings. This has to be done on a computer OR can be done on your phone if you go to WW with safari.
