Ali Express: can I buy my dress here?

Lydia, on July 9, 2012 at 4:44 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 14

So, I have this one dress that I am totally in love with from David's Bridal. I found the same dress on aliexpress.com for only $155. Is it reliable? I don't want my dress to get here with threads sticking out and stuff. Here's the link: http://www.aliexpress.com/store/product/Ivory-One-Shoulder-Tulle-Ball-Gown-with-Lace-Appliques-skirt-wedding-dresses-Style-CKP421/316874_537329050.html.

Not at all, that is based in Asia, and if the dress comes out terrible, you're pretty much out the money. Have you checked out some of the pre-owned dress sites to see if they have your gown? RecycledBride, OnceWed, and Preownedweddingdresses.com are all places to check out.

Also, did you actually try on the dress at David's? Remember, it could look different on you than on the model. If you haven't tried on dresses, I suggest you do, and keep an open mind, you never know what might work best for you.

I wouldn't even risk buying a dress from china, no matter how good their "reviews" are because most are fake ones posted by their employees.

What kind of dress and budget do you have in mind? And please remember that the way it looks on the model is TOTALLY different than on you, depending on the dress

    Cheaper doesn't always mean better.

A lot of these online sites provide knock offs with cheaper materials and bad stitching. There have been many bad experiences with buying a dress online. You might spend $155 on it and it comes and it's not at all what you wanted. Then you will be out some money because you don't always get all you spent back.

I looked at the website and it's one of those China based wholesalers.

Dont do it. not only do you have no recourse if the quality is bad but you open your self up for identity theft, and i've said it before,,, the hygiene in the factories is terrible, you could get bugs, or worse a dress that the stench wont come out of.

I did try it on and it was so gorgeous. My MIL started crying, and I can't get it out of my head. Of course, I'm going to go to a few other places first Smiley smile Here are some pictures of the dress actually on me.

Thank you so much for all the feedback. I was unsure and definitely thought the price was too good to be true Smiley smile

WOULD NOT suggest it! I bought miine from TBDress in China because it was gorgeous and so cheap!! I'm not TOTALLY dissapointed, i"m still going to use it, but definitely not exactly as advertised. And I get the feeling they might be up to something shady. I paid $134 for my dress. The bill of sale said it was a "gift" of $67. What?? So I have a feeling there would be a problem if I tried to return it.

I'm actually having a lot of work done to it to get it how I wanted.

Just gonna chalk it up to live and learn I guess. But for your sake, plese don't be fooled by those foreign sites that sell for so cheap!

That beadwork is Beautiful!!!! I wouldn't trust a knock-off site to trying to recreate that.

Advice you don't do that, ali has the good and the bad things of course, but they don't accept Paypal, so if it wasn't what you want, it is difficult to get your money back. I always shop on beltal.com ,because they accept Paypal and lower price with the same quality and same seller. hope this help you

I have had customers share their poor experience of not being able to receive any correspondence once these companies have their money. They have also shared how disappointed they were once they received their dress.

For anyone wondering whether a website is from China, we have put together a list of over 3000 sites (and counting) that you should stay away from.

Watch the videos as well to help educate yourself.

You can also share your experience if you ever ordered from one of these sites on our list and help others.

Just an FYI even if you buy your dress from a reputable store, as I did, the dresses are still manufactured over in Asia. I did not find this out till after I ordered my dress and have waited 9 months to get it. I was told that it will still be a while since I ordered it in December and it is our Christmas so they are closed for a week on this end (Canada) and then the manufactures close for 3 weeks because of Chinese new year. Might as well try the nock-off discount site and save yourself $$$$ at first and if you get it and hate it then try a different store. Wish that's what I had done, my dress is online for 1/4 of the price we paid at a store.......
