Alcohol or Dry Wedding?

I am debating whether or not to have alcohol at our reception. At first I was planning an evening with an open bar, then an early afternoon with champagne and maybe one signature drink. But the more I think about it, we don't have any super big drinkers in our family, it's at like 2 in the afternoon. And I'm terrified I'll put down a ton of money for bar tending, security, and alcohol that no one will drink. I can think of other things I'd rather spend that money on, but I don't want to seem cheap and I don't think I've ever been to a dry wedding before. Help!

@Susan-Have you been to a party? Like a real party? I have alcohol at my son's birthday parties for the adults, because...children.

Here we go with the "if you can't have fun without alcohol, you have a bigger problem" comparisons.

I'm just here to say I can't believe how wildly popular bananas in toilets seems to be, based on a quick Google image search

@Talia oh my gosh, there's an actual picture of it!

I went to a dry wedding recently, and no one was dancing except for the BMs and bride/groom. So yes, alcohol usually helps to keep the party flowing.

If my BAM doesn't have someone bobbing for bananas in the toilet than it will have all been for nothing!

This board seems to thrive on drama, so why not?

    Pass the popcorn.

FMG- I am wondering if my wedding even counts since there was no bobbing for bananas.

Why is alcohol looked at as something that is so evil? Is it because it's expensive?

If a decent number of guests enjoy tea in the evening to help them unwind and relax wouldn't you want to provide that for them? When my husband's Argentinean friends come over I grab Yerba mate despite hating the way it tastes. I want them to feel welcomed special and comfortable. Why would a wedding be any different?

I feel that I'm not taking full advantage of the open bars at all the events that I go to as I have never witnessed a banana in the toilet.

@Mrs BdeG: Maybe? But people will shell out for prime rib, photo booths and other things so why not the drinking?

Anyone who has not seen a banana in a toilet clearly did not have a good time in college. Go University of Wisconsin-Superior Yellowjackets!!!

LOL I was Queen Frosh, but I've never seen a banana in a toilet. Maybe it was after my time.
