After Party - yes or no?

After you having an after party post-wedding? FH and I are deciding if we should tell guests to just meet at the same street of bars or organize something at the hotel we're staying at the wedding night. Did you have an after party? Why or why not?

YES YES YES!! Our venue was a mile from our 10 acres of land, so we built a bonfire, grabbed the keg of beer, the rest of the cases of wine, and invited everyone out to our land. We had like 10 friends staying with us (a mixture of camping on our property and staying in the house) who set up mason jars with tea lights up our hill from our house so people could find the bathroom. And we had a 6 FT diameter 2FT deep bonfire pit that DH built along with the giant jenga and several benches built out of concrete block and thick slabs of wood. We went through 2, 20 FT trees that DH had cut down with his groomsman. The bluegrass band we hired (the lead female vocalist and guitarist was my college roommate) came up on the hill and jammed out for almost 3 hours. We had over 30 guests from the wedding come by and stay. It was amazing to be surrounded by so many disparate groups from all over the US and seeing all of our friends and family interact and love on us and each other. It was one of the highlights of the wedding! DH and I have gone up the hill and had several bonfires since to reminisce.

Of course, our wedding was from 3pm-9pm so we had plenty of time for the after party which went until about 2:30am (DH and I got into bed at about 3am). And honestly, I didn't have any food for people (a bag of marshmellows probably doesn't count!) just beer, liquor, wine, water, tea, and cider. I didn't plan anything and left it all in DH's hands. The only thing we paid for was the tea lights. Everything else we brought from the venue or already had. Best decision ever. I can't recommend an after party enough!

We're having one! We technically have our venue until midnight, but we decided to end the reception around 9:30 for a few reasons... 1, we only get the DJ for 5 hours, and he's starting at 4:30. 2, that's a long time for people to be party rocking! But most importantly... 3, we are headed to the karaoke bar that we met at, fell in love at, and got engaged at. It's a very important place to us, so we are hosting a karaoke after party there!

Nope. We have a morning wedding. And we have to drive three hours to get to the city with the airport we are flying out of at 6am the next morning. And neither of us are huge social butterflies so the few hours we will be spending with everyone will be plenty.

We did not. We left the venue at 11 and I wanted to go to the nightclub in my dress bc I wasn't ready to take it off yet lol. but we were both so so tired at that point and it would've been just he and I so....

Also, I would have murdered some drunk ass who ruined my dress. So we just went back to the hotel and did activities Smiley winking

Probably will have one bc its New Orleans and the clubs and bars shut down between 4-6am. FH's cousin's wedding had an after party on Bourbon with whoever wanted. It didn't cost them nothing random strangers kept buying them drinks and bc they were in a group they never got charged to get in anywhere. And in Louisiana you can walk around with you drinks (most states no open container) so you can bring your own cup or start drinking one place (like hotel) then just go from place to place no need to finish or throw out your drink each time. If it wasn't such a party city I wouldn't. Plus FH wants to. As far as them spending 6-8 hours with us, actually in NOLA most venues (all the traditional venues--hotels, ballrooms) have 3 hour receptions and 30 minute ceremonies so you're looking at 4 hours max.

By the time the reception was over I just wanted to go to the bed and breakfast and go to bed! Plus spend time just the 2 of us.

I don't think a after party is hosted. But maybe just because I didn't host it. My guests finally got to repay us for all of the free booze. And not all receptions are that long. My ceremony was 5-5:30 cocktail party until 6:15, 6:15-10:15 so most guests were only there 5 hours. We're still young-ish and usually the parties don't even start until 10, and with that it's a pre-game before the REAL party at midnight.

We are for sure having one! Our venue is off the road and not within walking distance to any bars so my FSIL and FBIL are hosting an after party at the house they rented at the edge of the property! I am SO excited for it!! Complete with Kegs and MORE FOOD! Smiley smile

Our reception is until 1 a.m and my sweet fiancé is wanting to plan something more. Um, I'll be lucky if I last the duration of the wedding without falling asleep somewhere....

Our reception goes until 1am. I'm pretty sure by 12 there will only be a few people left. I'm pretty much considering the end of the dance the after party. After 1am I'm going to bed.

I would like to do the after party as an un hosted event at the bar at the hotel. I don't think I would bother doing an official after party though. I think we will have to see how things go but I don't know how many of our guests will even stay for the whole reception, never mind attend an after party.

Our reception ends at 10PM and there's a bar attached to the hotel everyone is staying at / where the wedding is. We're gonna tell everyone we're going to the bar after and if they wanna come, they can join us.

No, we are not night owls. Our typical bedtime is sometime before 11 am. Our exit is at about 10:00-10:15 and I know I will be tired and ready to go to sleep. We might go out after the Rehearsal dinner with some friends, especially the OOT ones, but not after the wedding.

Our reception will end at 10pm and I'm pretty sure both FH and I will want to keep the party going. We just plan on going to the hotel bar and letting people know we will be there if they want to show up.

My husband and I are not big drinkers, and don't like staying up super late, so we had no interest in an after party. Some of my family though, they went and had a big after party themselves at the hotel.

If you are going out afterwards tell those interested where to meet you. Don't plan anything offical.

I just contacted the restaurant/bar that's in the same parking lot as our hotel and the woman was super accommodating and told me to let he know when it gets closer how many people we are anticipating and she will make sure to have enough bartenders on that night. I originally didn't think they had late night hours so this just made my day! It won't be hosted. Just casual for anyone who isn't quite ready to stop partying yet!

Our reception ends at 10 and I think that will be that. I look forward to getting to the hotel room and spending some time with my new FH. Maybe if all of our guests weren't from out of town and our venue wasn't so secluded (nothing around) we might would entertain the idea.
