After Party - yes or no?

WWKatie, on October 28, 2015 at 2:03 PM Posted in Planning 0 70

After you having an after party post-wedding?

FH and I are deciding if we should tell guests to just meet at the same street of bars or organize something at the hotel we're staying at the wedding night.

Did you have an after party? Why or why not?

Eh We didn't (although we had a Sunday wedding that ended at 8) but mostly because we were unbelievably tired and just wanted to get out of all the formal stuff. We did however go down to our hotel lobby with some family members of mine to watch the Spurs NBA Playoff game.

Money suck, if you host it and frankly, by then? These people will have been at your ceremony and reception for 6-8 hours........enough.

We all coordinated and walked to a bar that was a couple blocks from our reception together. It was so much fun and I'm pretty sure the packed bar was like 50% our wedding guest and then some friends that we weren't able to invite heard about and came out to celebrate with us. I was so happy we did I never wanted that night to end. I did change before because I knew the bar would be extremely crowded and my dress was pretty big so i changed into one of the white summer dresses I got for my shower right before we left the reception. We had one! The venue closed down at 1 am and we went to the FILs house (a 7 minute walk away). The after party died down around 5 am. Honestly, no clue why we did it, just did.

We are having one. Only because we only have our reception for 3 hours. (DW so reception at the resort only goes till 9pm) That is not enough time to celebrate IMO. We will be heading to a local Mexican bar/pub to continue our night Smiley smile Smiley smile

We went to the hotel bar after the reception and told everyone we would be there but didn't make it an event or anything.

When we got back to the hotel, I changed and we headed back out! Granted it was only like 9:30 by then so we had to keep the night going!

We were going to, but my family ended up bringing coolers and throwing their own after party at their hotel. DH and I didn't go because we weren't staying there, but I hear it was a good time haha.

Our friends will be having one in their hotel room close to ours. We may stop by if we're up to it.

I like the idea of just telling people 'here's where we'll be, come or don't' and I think that's definitely what we're leaning towards! I know FH will still want to go out and drink more after, so I'll definitely need to have some 5 hr energies on hand or something!

I am uber anti-after-party! There are other things I'd rather do on the wedding night than go to a party after the party...if you get my drift. I suppose if a couple isn't waiting until the wedding night, I can understand not caring about getting back to the hotel room sooner rather than later, but I definitely want some private time after the reception. We'll see everyone in the morning at breakfast.

Nah. We're wanting an earlier exit time (9pm) so we can have private time to soak the day in, enjoy the care package the catering manager will send with us (including cake), have some champagne, and not be too tired for other... schtuffs.... Smiley winking

And we're having a Sunday wedding, so I don't want to send the guests home too late because I get anxiety about everyone making it home safely.

ETA: We're also having a ceremony start time at 2pm, with dinner starting at 4pm, so that would make for a really long Sunday for anyone who has to work the next day.

We will probably not have one because 1. I already know I will be soooo tired and 2. I want to go back to the hotel and spend some time with my new Husband (instead of just going back and passing out exhausted/drunk).

We're planning to go out for a while with a few of our OOT guests, but not everyone...if we even do anything that night. lol

We ARE, however, having an "After Wedding Karaoke" night, the following night (Saturday) at the venue where FH usually hosts karaoke. Anyone who wants to come hang out with us will be able to come and hang out and have a drink. Smiley smile

Yes and I am so glad we did. It gave me a chance to finally get some drinks and have some better one on one time with friends and out of state family members. We had it at the hotel where we stayed, which gave me the option to go up to bed if I was exhausted or hang out. In my opinion, it was one of the best parts of the night and allowed me to finally kick back.

We'll be having an informal one at a bar down the block from the hotel. Our venue kicks us out at 9:30, so why not!

@Watermill great to hear! Our wedding is mostly destination (other than FH's family, everyone is coming to FL from OOT) and I think having something at the hotel we're staying at will give me an escape route if I need it Smiley smile

We're having one! We only have our venue till 9:30 on a Saturday and don't want the party to end that early. The venue is down the street from a great bar-hopping area. The main reason we're doing it is because FH and I are really in to dancing...but not the kind of dancing you do in front of Grandma, lol. So we want to go out and listen to some bad-ass music, that also wouldn't be appropriate during the reception, and dance the night away. And I'll definitely be staying in my dress!

Does a party for two in our hotel room count? JK
