After Party - Yea or Nay?

Lynnie, on February 15, 2018 at 2:05 PM Posted in Wedding Reception 0 63

Are you planning on continuing the party post-reception? These have become very popular with my friends, especially when venues have noise restrictions that can make your wedding reception end earlier in the night! (or you know, to keep everyone from hosting 10 hours of open bar Smiley shame )

Will you have an after party? Why or why not?

FH's friends are already talking about what we are doing after the wedding. I don't think any of the hotels we have room blocks at have bars or have bars open past 9 p.m. They are trying to figure out how to coordinate getting to a bar local to the hotels afterwards.

We picked out venue (a mansion on 62 acres) for the sole purpose of a huge after party. So yeah...I am pro after party!

We had planned an after party for our small 18 person wedding that ended at 8.30pm. Two people showed up besides us. Honestly, I was absolutely exhausted and we stayed out for 1 drink. I'm so happy that I didn't sign any contracts and fork over thousands of dollars!

We're having a Greek wedding and for us, there's no such thing as an "After Party".

Your reception IS your party! That's why they last for 8 hours!

We are having an after party since our venue has to have the music shut off by 10. We are planning to do a bar crawl down the beach since there is a bar behind a lot of them.

Nay! I will be tired and want alone time with my husband once the reception is over. I'm not a party animal though and will be itching for the night to be over with so I can relax. Smiley smile

Also, I may be wrong but, since you are hosting the after party isn't it expected that the bride/groom will be picking up the tab? This sounds like poor hosting to me.

I probably won't be doing this due to our open bar going from 5pm-1am.

We didn't. We're just not party people. We kept the reception short and sweet and very laid back. We were happy to spend the evening alone.

My FH immediate family wants to have an after party at either his mom’s or brother’s house. I’m really trying to talk him out of it, honestly. I know I’ll probably be exhausted and I want to spend some quality time with him after our wedding not just go home and pass out.

We don't have an after party planned out but most likely we will have one. It's kind of stereotypical, but the Mexicans I know (I'm Mexican too) we like to party, including my 98 year old great grandma lol! I've been to parties that last until the wee hours of the morning lol!

We were thinking about it, but nope, didn't happen. We were exhausted. it's like an all day event for the couple, so by the time the ceremony comes, well in my case, I was already tired 😴 😂

Okay, I'm honestly kind of mad because I asked my mom where the after party is going to be and she said to me "what do you mean? You're going to the hotel with your husband, we are going to continue partying!"

like, did I just get uninvited to my wedding's after party!?

We paid extra to have our venue until 2:00 am so no after party the same night. However, the next day at 1:00 pm we are having an "after party" at FHs parents house! Just going to invite all the guests from the wedding to drink and eat with us the day after the wedding.

Yes. We are using one of the boardrooms in our hotel and going to order in late night pizza and have drinks since our hotel doesn't have a bar.

Yes! One of my favorite things about the venue. They will be cleaning up the cocktail hour space and turning it into an After Glow party. We extended the open bar two extra hours from 11-1. This is when the late night snacks will be served. A ton of glow sticks, wands, light up glasses, fun party accessories will be put out so when they open the doors into the room people can take what they want.

A friend who we met a few years back at a music festival is now an Electronic DJ and does some events. He will be doing the music for that section of the night. Lasers and all! We started dating at an electronic music festival so it was a fun way to incorporate that into our wedding while keeping the main section elegant and formal.

For us we just wanted to keep the night going as long as possible and give everyone an alternative to going to the bar and spending money or not having something to do.

No. In my area, evening weddings already run until the wee hours, so it's not necessary.

We are having an afternoon wedding and because of chronic health conditions we figure we will be tired afterwards anyway. Off to the minimoon hotel to relax.
