Hello Everyone, My name is Kelinda and my fiance and I got engaged this past August. While we havent had much time planning bc of work ... I am now desperately looking for an affordable wedding venue within NJ or NY... does anybody know of any places they would like to recommend. All suggestions are welcomed.... Thanks

Define affordable, a majority of the places i looked at (about 15 places) averaged in the 150 range...April is considered off season so it may be a little cheaper. also depends on what type of venue you are looking for.

Good point Vanessa... I want a very simple wedding ... we are hoping to get a place that will cater to 75-100 ppl for about 65 pp not including tax and gratuity... we are open to paying up to 75- 80 pp.

I live in staten island and always see in the super markets the celebration book that has all NJ halls in it with a few advertising that price point. i see you are also doing a sunday, so are we (the day before Presidents day so we are getting a sat feel for a sun price!) the difference was about 30 pp from a sat to a sun. we originally wanted nov and then considered feb when we were told nov is become more in season and low and behold we are saving about 100-150 pp for switching to february! You are probably better off with NJ, although i was shocked with how cheap Russo's on the Bay was and they now have a smaller room that will accomodate your list

In NJ; Courtyard on Main, in Freehold (I love this place; ask for Anthony)

    Trinity, in Keyport (gorgeous)

The Manor (off season, that might work) West Orange

    The Bethwood, Totowa

    The Empire Club, Little Ferry

    Lake Mohawk CC, Sparta

    Flanders Valley CC

    Solar di Minho, Cranford

    Seabras, Perth Amboy

    Chandelier, Belleville

    Richfield Regency, Verona

    The Fiesta, East Rutherford

    In NY;

    Villa Borghese, Wappingers Falls, NY

    Chateau Hathorne, Warwick

I'm not sure if they all fall into your price range, but the are on the more reasonable end of the spectrum in my experience.

Sundays are cheaper, March is cheaper.

Generally speaking, renting a venue and bringing in catering/furniture/staff is not usually the most cost effective way to go, even though I love the Montclair Museum. I'd work with the venues first.

Congrats!! We are getting married at the Renaissance of Astoria in March. The hall is beautiful and very affordable. Jessica will definately work with your budget and she is absolutely delightful! And they only have one event at a time! Good luck on your search!

One of my planner colleagues did her own wedding at the Fiesta, which is a pretty good endorsement.....

There is also the Garden Vista Ballroom, in Passaic.

We're getting married at The Swan Club in Roslyn, NY (border of NYC and Long Island). We were quoted $75/pp for a November Saturday evening wedding. The room we're using is a 100-140 capacity, and we have 130 on the invite list. Check it out... www.swanclub.com

The Swan Club is really beautiful, and the staff there couldn't be nicer; I did a wedding in their greenhousy kind of structure last summer, and it was just fantastic.

I did a wedding at the Brooklyn Winery this weekend (which I don't think is too expensive) and it was just great. Rebar, in Dumbo also used to have all inclusive (as in music, food, location, bar) specials too, and it's a wonderful location.

If you are willing to travel a little bit further in southern NJ, you will be happy to learn that even our best venues are considerably less than north Jersey/NY area. We have beautiful wineries, inns, country clubs, etc.

Good luck and much happiness to you!
