I am terrified that I won't be able to sleep the night before the wedding. I am not the type of person who can run on no sleep and unfortunately I have trouble sleeping when I'm anxious. I am so afraid that my wedding day will be ruined Smiley sad. This all stems from a time when I took off work to take a one day get away to a water park 3.5 hours away. The night before I couldn't sleep all night and I was still awake when it was time to leave. I went on the trip anyway but ended up getting sick after 3 rides and had to leave. Ever since then I've had this fear of ruining important days by not sleeping the night before. What do you do when you can't sleep? I'm up for any and all suggestions.

I'm so worried about not sleeping. I barely slept before one of my friend's weddings I was so excited so I can't imagine what I'm going to be like before my own wedding. Wine, benadryl, or even lavender oil on your temples would work. Also, if you're not sleeping in your own bed, make sure you have everything you need to sleep (fan, special pillow, etc)

If you do try a sleep aid, I would recommend trying it a few nights before the wedding (so, for you, like tonight!). A few sleep aids people have recommended just don't do it for me. Benadryl makes me super awake and hyper, and Tylenol PM makes me really groggy the next day. So you need to find what works for you.

I usually fall right asleep with a couple glasses of wine. I took the bar exam last month and I was so freaked out I wouldn't sleep, but I had a few glasses (not too many!) and it worked like a charm.

I am definitely going to have two benedryls. Keep the hotel room or wherever you're staying as similar as how you normal sleep. Bring your own pillow, etc.

I always have a hard time falling asleep because my mind is racing. I highly suggest ASMR, relaxation, or hypnosis videos on youtube. I wear headphones every night and watch relaxing videos until I fall asleep.

Benadryl and Zzzquill also work wonders! I wish codeine was over the counter. I would drink that shit like candy every night.

Take a melatonin or two, allow yourself 8-9 hours to sleep, try to just relax a bit in bed before trying to sleep. A shower/bath before bed can lower your body temp which also helps you sleep.

I just drank a shit ton of wine and fell asleep easily, but not the best recommendation Smiley smile

Bringing my own pillow to the hotel, taking Melatonin and definitely getting to bed early.

I'm also not going to drink ANY caffeine the day before the wedding and I'm going to try to get as much sleep that week as possible!

So, my sister and I have this joke, that the show "Murder, She Wrote" is a natural sleep aid. . . put it on at bedtime, and you'll be asleep before the episode is over.

One time, I was staying at her house with our two teenaged nieces, and at about 9:30, we put Murder, She Wrote on, and within 5 minutes, both of them went to bed. It really works!!

    Thanks for all the suggestions!

I don't drink so the wine suggestion isn't for me and we are waiting until our wedding night for sex so I guess that suggestion won't work either lol

But I do think I'm going to use a combination of taking a warm shower, reading in bed for a while, and taking Benadryl. Also praying before bed helps me to relax so I'll do that and I'll pray that I get some sleep.

I'll let you guys know how it goes! Smiley smile

For me, I need 1 hour of doing nothing before bed. Don't take any meds/pills without trying them first in advance -- you don't want to be half asleep still the next day.

I'm planning to spend an hour before bedtime the night before taking a shower, painting and trimming my nails and watching some cartoons/an old Disney movie.

I didn't got bed the night before until about 3 am, so I literally passed out as soon as my head touched the pillow and didn't need the usual melatonin. My eyes were wide open at 7 am and didn't get sleepy until we got to the hotel late at night (we helped a bit with cleaning).

Over the counter sleeping pill (25-50 mg) and a glass of wine. Done and done.

I once had a professor tell us students that if we can't sleep the night before the bar exam, at least know that your body gets recharged from laying down. Just having that comforting knowledge was enough to calm me down enough to actually sleep that night.

disclaimer: not sure how accurate the professor was but I did pass the bar Smiley smile

I downed some Nyquil. Slept like a baby. There's no way I would have slept otherwise.

I highly recommend melatonin. It is the natural chemical your body produces to cause drowsiness and lowers the body temperature. You can buy it at Wal-greens or any drug store. My FH uses this every night when he goes to sleep (he works the midnight shift and it's hard to fall asleep when it's daylight out). This has done wonders for him. Taking melatonin is only increasing the amount that is naturally created in your body.

You can try melatonin. You let the tablet dissolve under your tongue or between you bottom lip and bottom jaw.

Zzquil or any other type of sleep aid. I have been taking them for the past 2 days because I can't sleep. Wedding is 3 days away and I am soooo anxious.

Take a sleeping pill. It sounds like you are already anxious about not being able to sleep. I have no trouble sleeping, and didn't even think about this before my wedding. I did not sleep a wink the night before my wedding and I woke up in tears! I couldn't believe the sun was up and I thought my day was ruined Smiley sad It turns out my adrenaline kicked in and I had a fantastic day, but I was exhausted. Others have made good over the counter suggestion. Zopiclone (Immovane) is a doctor prescribed medication to help sleep and it has minimal side effects the next day. Whatever you do test it out to make sure you are not groggy and a mess the next day. Good luck!
