Advice on how to sleep the night before the wedding

Bri, on August 19, 2014 at 4:05 AM Posted in Planning 0 40

I am terrified that I won't be able to sleep the night before the wedding. I am not the type of person who can run on no sleep and unfortunately I have trouble sleeping when I'm anxious. I am so afraid that my wedding day will be ruined Smiley sad. This all stems from a time when I took off work to take a one day get away to a water park 3.5 hours away. The night before I couldn't sleep all night and I was still awake when it was time to leave. I went on the trip anyway but ended up getting sick after 3 rides and had to leave. Ever since then I've had this fear of ruining important days by not sleeping the night before. What do you do when you can't sleep? I'm up for any and all suggestions.

I'm worried about that too, I think I'll take my sister's advice...wine. Just enough to make you sleepy, not so much to make you feel it the next day.

Same here. I might take that advice, too, HIH.

I worry about this too I have a habit of not being able to sleep before a big trip and even holidays, leading me to feel sick the next day. I plan on having one or 2 Carolina's and hot chocolate seeing as wine doesn't not agree with me and Carolina's normally puts me to sleep. I also thought of this in advance so I don't have to leave for my venue until 1 pm so if need be I can close the black out curtain and sleep in.

I know I won't be sleeping the night before, especially since I am putting all my flowers together after the rehearsal dinner but I have pulled all-nighters before and think that the adrenaline will keep me going, I HOPE! LOL.

Have a couple glasses of wine or champagne to help relax you, maybe while laying in bed and trying to read a book? Reading in bed always gets me and I'm usually passed out within an hour

A glass of wine, st. johns wort, or some tea before bed? i would keep the lights completely off and maybe try a sound machine with rain or something?

a glass or 2 of red wine always puts me to sleep.

Don't stress about not sleeping - because that won't let you sleep! good luck babe! and congrats!! Smiley smile have an AMAZING weekend Smiley smile

Whenever I can't sleep, I make Yogi caramel bedtime tea. It's the best, really sweet and I don't think it has anything in other than herbs and organic caramel and vanilla flavor and it's delicious.

I think for me it will be making sure absolutely everything is on a list somewhere and organized. If I'm stressing about details and organizing I won't be able to sleep. I don't know if this is your personality as well, but you could try making sure as much as possible is in order so there's not any legitimate reason to stress. Sometimes taking a shower before going to bed is relaxing, and I second the tea. Personally, if I start reading, I'll lose track of time and keep reading--so that wouldn't work for me, but clearly it does for others. Before big things I sleep better if I know I am prepared for the next day, so after the rehearsal and decorating the venue I'll probably go back to my apartment, have tea with my sister, make sure my things are all in order for the next day, I'm packed for the honeymoon, etc., check my lists and make sure everyone is where they need to be, and wind down as much as possible and sleep. I don't want to be a tired bride!!! Mostly, like adilou said, don't stress about it--if you become desperate to sleep you probably won't. Best wishes!! Smiley smile

I think some warm milk with honey will help. It's always put me to sleep whenever I have my insomnia episodes lol.

Zquil. It's the Nyquill version that is just for sleep and not colds. I don't sleep before holidays or big trips so I won't sleep the 18th either. Nyquil knocks me out and doesn't leave me groggy, if I don't take the full amount. So I plan on some Zquil to just get sleep.

Go to bed as early as you can, and take two sleeping pills. I did that the night before and slept great. Make sure you set an alarm. Set the alarm so that you have a little time to snooze if you want, are able to take a shower, and then are able to eat some breakfast before going off to do what you need to do.

I'm just like you. I get anxious before big trips and even for big days at work/school. This worked wonders for me.

To help with any of the "check list" stuff, try to get all of your stuff to the venue the DAY BEFORE, if possible. That helps a lot.

I stressed a lot the Thursday/Friday before our wedding, but I was ready/happy/excited on that Saturday. Getting those stressful things done BEFORE THE BIG DAY made the BIG DAY much better.

I'm in this boat, too!! I get migraines when I don't sleep, so I definitely don't want that ruining my day. During a very stressful time, I once wouldn't sleep more than 2 hours a night for days. I took pills that were meant to knock out my friend so he wouldn't have seizures at night....still didn't work. With that, I'm planning on having everything DONE beforehand. I'm going to work out the day before, eat well, relax the night of, and maybe have a drink. I think that's all I can do!

I am like you too, and despite my best efforts and planning (relaxing, making sure everything is taken care of, tylenolPM..), I still wasn't able to sleep the night before (or the days leading up, or a few days after). I usually get 9 hours of sleep per night. The day of our wedding I was barely even able to eat until after the ceremony. Despite all of that which would usually leave me miserable, I think adrenaline kicked in because I was fine the day of running on no sleep and little food. At the end of the night I wasn't ready for it to be over!

Advil PM puts me to sleep really quickly. I use it when I travel for work and can't sleep. Will plan to use this the night before to ensure a good night's sleep.

Any of you ever try Bob Marleys Mellow Mood? It comes in iced tea and carbonated berry and lemon flavours. It's all natural stuff and doesn't hurt your stomach or risk knocking you out, it just relaxes you FAST and GREAT! I was a nervous wreck for a trip in December, I got halfway through a bottle and passed out for 8 hours.

You should be able to find it at the grocery store/convienience store etc. In Canada they are at Needs and WalMart and most gas stations.

I'm not advertising this lightly, I am an anxiety nightmare that lives in insomnia land, finding this stuff was a life saver. Try it out sometime and see if it works for you Smiley smile

I also have trouble sleeping with im nervous or anxious. But the night before the wedding, despite everyone saying i wouldnt get a wink of sleep, i slept peacefully. I was out like a light, slept like a log all night long. I think all of the stress, worry, and panic wore me out.

Get to bed early with a sleep aid, like tylenol pm or the non tylenol types. booze can risk puffy face or headaches.
