$700 for ALTERATIONS….How much did you pay?

My coworker is a bride to be and she informed me that she paid $1400 for her dress and $700 for alterations (YIKES). My budget is $1000 for my dress so I’m wondering if I need to down my dress budget to $300 and use the rest for alterations lol.

I've budgeted $500 for Alterations. Fingers crossed this is enough... When I purchased my Dress, I opted to pay extra for a "Hollow to Hem" measurement so my dress came in to the height I would be with my shoes. Hopefully, that won't need any adjusting. My first fitting is next Saturday! So nervous!

My alterations were $250 for a hem and bustle. My dress is tulle on the botton so no lace.

I spent $525 total with tax. They had to take in 2-3 inches on side, alot with the hem, cups, shoulders, bustle.... it was expensive but its going to be a beautiful end result!

Mine is lace, so we have to consider the lace, and a train etc

ETA: FYI i wouldnt have needed so many alterations on mine like the taking in, had i not lost alot of weight. i was going to get the dress 1 size down, but i am blessed with a large bust that wont fit in the smaller size even though everything else does

I'm spending $250 for train removal, hem, & taking the top in at the shoulders. Oh & they're putting straps on the inside to hold my bra straps in place & making the V neck a tad less low. I think it's a good deal & I'm so excited for my next fitting!!

My dress was $499, and I paid $85 for hem, $25 for a 3 point bustle & $60 to bring it in about 4 inches in the bust.

    Total cost $669 Smiley smile

Mine is just under $700 - flat fee for as many alterations and what ever i need. my dress is also very complicated with a lot of layers. i'm not thrilled with the price but i know this seamstress does an incredible job.

Mine is probably going to be over $400, hoping it's not much more than $500. The actual dress is $1400, but I'm adding a satin bow on the back, and we also ordered extra fabric to make sleeves (not sure what length yet-- could be cap sleeves, 3/4 sleeves, or long sleeves). The dress won't need a hem thankfully if I wear 4inch heels (which I crazily agreed to because i'm 4' 11"), but it needs to be taken in at the top because my torso is smaller than my lower body and will need a bustle too. I don't think I'm going to add cups (we didnt discuss it yet), but I think I prefer to wear a bra or shape wear with a built in bra.

I had my first fitting almost two weeks ago now and paid $680. She is taking the dress up, taking it in from bust to mid thigh, reshaping bustline, adding an english bustle, sewing in cups, and sewing on the belt. I was expecting it to be a lot so I wasn't too shocked, but it's definitely a huge cost to think about in advance.

You might look into whether there are independent seamstresses in your area who do alterations. We've got a couple of excellent ones near us, and their prices were way less than those of the bridal salons.

Yeah, you want to be careful to keep a nice chunk aside for alterations. My dress hasn't come in yet, but I'm keeping $500 in budget for alterations. I'm hoping it comes in at half that! I'm holding my breath, since I have a lace dress and I'm sure I'll need a major hem and taking up in bust.

Oh dear god I hope my alterations don't cost that much. My dress is lace and will need to be hemmed a couple inches plus taken in along the sides (I have no hips). I guess we'll see....
