My coworker is a bride to be and she informed me that she paid $1400 for her dress and $700 for alterations (YIKES). My budget is $1000 for my dress so I’m wondering if I need to down my dress budget to $300 and use the rest for alterations lol.

I am estimating about $1,200 for both of my dresses. I have lost a lot of weight over the past few months. One dress is already in alterations (sizing down, bead work, sash, and bustle) and will cost $750. The second dress is heavily beaded. I am thinking the work on this dress will be a lot (assuming the work can be done) with a cost adding up to the $1,200.

Just got back from alterations and mine will cost $50. I went to a mom and pop shop (Macy's made the recommendation when my fiance asked where to get his suit hemmed). I go my dress hemmed and the train cut off.

@Elizabeth. My $350 quote was in Brooklyn. My bridal store recommended a woman.

Mine was ~$300. the sides had to be taken in, hem, bustle, and a special stitch on the top to pull it in tighter for the twins. LOL

I paid $275 to have it taken in around the ribcage and hemmed. It would have been another $150 to bustle.

I just got back from my wedding dress appt and paid $765 for all of my alterations (that's with a 10% discount for working a state job). My dress is an Amelia Sposa Ines and has a fully laced bodice and lots of lace along the skirt, a really long train and several layers of petticoats and lining. In total, they have to add gussets to my lace sleeves, take in the lace overlay on the bodice and neckline, shorten the lace bodice, hem the entire skirt and petticoat layers, add 2, 3-point bustles and then cups to the chest.
