My FH and I will both be 39 when we wed. Neither of us have been married before.

He was Air Force for 20 years and lived all over the world and I was an International Horse Show Manager/head groom/barn manager for 20. We both have lived a lot and have seen so much. Now its time to do it all again, but with our partner.

Our venue dicitates that its a small intimate wedding (40 people) but, I love that and I wanted a small wedding anyway. Of course, all of our friends and family have to fly to it, (other side of the country) but hey! its want we visioned.

I was 36, first wedding. I'm like you - I didn't want to settle down until now. I'm not wild, but I'm a traveler and loved to do things by myself.

We had a full wedding. It was about time! Lol.

I love hearing about everyone's stories! I preferred a bit smaller wedding but as we started planning my FMIL was so disappointed with a small desination wedding since it's her first wedding of her children. My FH is 31. Smiley smile So we talked and now we are having around 200 people! I went from a small intimate beach wedding to a large winter 'castle' wedding! (See pic!) I keep getting more excited with all the planning!

My aunt just got engaged and is getting married on Halloween this year, it's her first marriage for her and her FH and I'm super excited for them! I believe my aunt is 42 but I'm not 100%, a lot of the time I have to stop and think about how old I am! I believe they are expecting about fifty guests.

Congrats!! Could not agree more that age is merely a state of mind. My FH will be 41 and I will be 38 when we get married. It's his first and the first for his family and although it's my second, my first wedding was a very small thirty person backyard wedding 18 years ago. So we decided we are going big. The whole nine yards, almost 200 guests and hopefully one heck of a celebration. We may be in our 40's (or close to it) but finding each other we feel like life has just started out for us.

I will be 48 1/2 almost exactly give or take a couple of days when I get married for the first (and only!) time 48 and a half! - my FH's birthday is the day after the wedding - he will be 43. First marriages for both of us. I am 5 1/2 yrs older than him. Not really noticeable, age doesn't affect us. My girlfriends insist I look younger than him, hehe. We are having "the wedding."

I'm 36 and FH is 37. We are having all the bells and whistles. Why shouldn't you, if that's what you want? :-)

This is such a touchy topic and I'm glad you brought it to light! Congratulations to you!! I have really great friends who have not been very supportive of me and FH having a 'big' wedding of 100 guests the second time around. My first time, I was 21 and had a tiny wedding with a tea length dress off the rack at a department store. This time, we are doing/paying for it ourselves...no bridal party...just our kids walking us down the aisle. Seriously cannot wait to marry the man I adore. It just doesn't matter what other people think. This day is about you and your FH. Do what feels right for both of you and ENJOY!!

40 is the new 20. Have the wedding you want. Not giving a damn about other peoples opinions is a perk of getting older. Congrats

Congrats on finding love. I'm happy you're able to and wanting to have a big wedding. Age is just a number and you can wear whatever you want and do all of the original traditions too if that's what you want. Have fun.

I think you should be able to do whatever you want for your wedding! Happy that you found love! Age should not matter at all! Congratulations!

I will be 44, my FH will be 41 when we wed in May 2020. It will be the first marriage for both of us. Yes, we will pretty much have the traditional wedding, church ceremony, banquet hall. There will be a few exceptions: Ivory dress (think it looks better on my skin tone than white), no garter toss (my husband going up my dress in front of everyone just sounds weird). Still debating on the bouquet toss;the majority of the guests are already married.
I did feel a bit out of place at first going to David's Bridal and seeing all the young 20-somethings, but then I told myself what's common has nothing to do with me. Since I haven't been to many weddings, nor have I been a bridesmaid, I ask my married friends for planning advice and visit forums such as this on WW. I want ALL the things available to a bride, and we will just leave out the things we don't like. Just like marriage, you have to do what works for you and your spouse.
