2021 destination wedding

10-12 weeks prior to the wedding.

Invitations should typically go out 6-8 weeks before the wedding but destination wedding invites should go out 2-3 months before. If you are sending Save the Dates, you should send those out 9-12 months out.

I think save the dates can go out a year before, since guests will need more time to plan accordingly for travel. I would set up a wedding website on here, the Knot, Zola, etc. (whatever is your preference) with lots of information about the wedding for guests while they start planning travel, and include the link on your save the dates!

My fiancé and I got invited to a destination wedding. The bride requested everyone’s email addresses and sent out emails for everyone that included their travel agent, the resort, and room block via links! This was about a year or so out. We just recently got the save the date and are anticipating the official invite to come. Their wedding is May 2020.


I’m a fan of this because it gave us enough time to see if it fit our budget, get flights and everything else that comes with travel! I think it also helps the couple because if people didn’t respond to their email and/or book they knew they weren’t coming and saved on postage and additional invitations.

I think 3-4 months is good so your guests have time to save up and plan.
