2 weeks after the wedding & officiant has not turned in our marriage license! *grab the popcorn*

And the last time we met with her she even advised how it's best to give it to the best man to give to her discreetly! Like we're stupid or something but she definitely got her point across that she expects a tip!

And I was having problems with my bank and had written a check for the tip cause I didn't have cash and it was the night before the wedding and it bounced but I went out of my way and got her a money order and even paid the fee her bank charged her for the bounced check!

Have you called her and asked why she has not filed it?

Call her nicely and ask if she has filed it yet. if she says no, explain that for insurance purposes, you are low on time and ask if it would be better if she gets it to them or should you come by and pick it up?

I am going to call her first chance I get, hopefully on my break in a little over an hour! Have a meeting in 15-20mins first :-p I am trying to keep an open mind that there is a plausible explanation for all this... but if there is something to explain this or something that happened to delay it she could have at least e-mailed or called me!

You might also want to see what the time limits are with filing the licence with the clerk...I think ours was 14 days or something...

I understand your frustration- but check to make sure you can get dental through your work. With every job I've ever had- you can't get dental or vision if you don't choose the medical insurance as well. Double check with HR that you can do that.

FH and I tried to do that, and they wouldn't let us. It all had to be through one or the other.

-First of all, find out what the time limit is on sending them in, ours was 48 hours I think (Alberta)

-Then contact her and tell her she needs to send it in ASAP as you need your copy for health & work reasons. (Also find out if a copy of what you signed is good enough, instead of waiting for the 'finished' copy)

-If it was a civil (non-religous ceremony) did you get a civil certificate, some places can use that in lieu of the marriage licence.

-I would also contact the government of the area she is registered in to be an officiant and file a complaint.

The tip envelope is tacky and shameful IMHO. I will say in her defense that it is sometimes sitting on the in pile of a clerk's desk, but they prefer to blame the officiant rather than look for a minute. I had that happen to a couple once. They had to have it in right away as they were going out of the country soon. I mailed it the day of their wedding and when they tried to get a copy several days later, he was told it wasn't in. I called myself and they said they would look again. He got a call later that it was there.

UPDATE: So I left our officiant a voicemail stating who I was, when she married us, and that we still had not received our marriage certificate. Told her how I called the county and they said they had not received the license yet and simply asked if she sent if off or if she still had it in a matter of fact tone with no attitude or blame implied whatsoever. I asked that she please call or e-mail me and let me know. I'm very tempted to follow up with an e-mail as well from my work e-mail (since I'm at work) implying how urgent it is.

I would definately email as well. I think it is more than warranted.

Jennifer, wondered if you could submit not the official copy that gets mailed but the one that your witnesses sign on the day of the wedding. you know the one you get while the official one comes. Add a note to that, official copy will follow. Is that an option?

It will be 1 month 2moro and we haven't got our license either. I know the Pastor apllied for it because we had to fax him a copy of my husbands birth cert. It really makes me mad. Goodluck!

OMG Wow, we have 10 days here in Bucks Cty Pa, I am anal on the next Business day no matter what my butt is down at the Cty Clerks office personally hand deliveing it, I guess I am old fashion like that, please do tell the outcome, and good luck!!!!

@Awet I will have to find out if that is an option. I can't imagine our jobs needing an "official" copy of it like the Social Security Admin and DMV do. But it's good I am checking into it to make sure it gets processed in the first place! I will definitely keep everybody updated!

To change your benefits they should only need a copy of your non official cert. Also you can go onto your CC marriage website, search your name and see if it has been sent to records. You can also us that for benefits, they do not need a cert. copy.

I'd send her an email. I'd say:

I'm sure you got my voicemail, but I just wanted to cover my bases. I contacted the court house and they said they don't have a copy of our marriage license yet. I'm sure it's sitting in their piles somewhere, but wanted to see if you could tell me what day you sent it. That may help me assist them in getting it processed sooner.

We need that back immediately to take care of a few important issues, and we didn't realize it would take them this long to process it. In your experience, do you know about how long it takes the couple to get their license back from the county?

Stress that you are sure she did her job, but ask for her help in getting it moving from the courthouse side!

Wow! I know the feeling! My priest/church didn't turn mine in until 3 weeks or so after the wedding. Luckily I had 60 days to turn in here and DS work took the un-offical copy
