07/18/2020 Wedding Date. Do we cancel/postpone? Help!

Priscilla, on April 10, 2020 at 5:53 AM Posted in Community Conversations 2 9
Help! What should we do. 98 days away. I’m so sorry to those who cancelled their special day. I can’t believe this is happening to our world. Definitely didn’t think we’d suffer a pandemic while also in the middle of planning a wedding.

I Think You Should Wait Until June And Then Reassess The Situation.

That depends on what state you’re in! For example I’m in Illinois and July on weddings will be happening. But I know some states are in a stay at home order until June 10th and further. I really would wait until about 45 days before and make the decision. SO much can happen! However, a huge suggestion would be to contact all your vendors and venue and find a date in the fall to potentially have as a back up so you don’t loose out on a date.

What state are you in? I would start talking with your vendors about what postponing would look like/what your date options are, and also focus on the fact that your wedding as you dreamed may not happen but your marriage will! Depending on your state, you may be able to cut your guest list to immediate family and go forward. Best advice is to breathe and analyze the situation. To be honest, weddings happenng this year will probably have to be around 50 people at the most. Big huge weddings of over 100 will have to be next year before anyone would be comfortable. Just being practical! I'm so sorry you're dealing with all of this.

I'm in the same boat as you and I get upset too that this is all happening. I'm July 25th and we aren't postponing yet, but I am aware that it may be a possibility. I'm also considering if we did move ahead with July 25th how we could make changes, such as decreasing the guest list. We didn't have a huge guest list anyway (a little less than 100). I've given myself to the beginning of May to just hold off on any decisions. My vendors are generally pretty positive that things will be a go in July, but I am not naive to believe that things will be "ok." The atmosphere will just be different for the rest of this year and perhaps beyond.

I agree with this .. anything can happen- no one can say for certain that weddings in July will happen anywhere .. even though in IL they are hopeful, even they, can’t be 100% sure .. I would wait untill May to make a decision but would definitely reach out to vendors now to see if they would be open to another day

We're on the same date and planning to wait until June or so to decide about postponing or not. Planning to elope on our date even if we do have to postpone.

    Hi Priscilla,

I'm so sorry you're going through this. Fortunately, there's still some time before your wedding. Have you asked any of your vendors about your options to postpone? I'd start with the venue; it would be helpful to know their process/deadline for postponing and available date options. It wouldn't hurt to have a plan B.

Also, as you may have already seen, WeddingWire has created resources for the planning (and/or postponement) process: Our COVID-19 Weddings Advice Guide, including What to Do About Your Wedding During the Coronavirus Pandemic.

I hope your wedding is not impacted by COVID-19, but it may be better to get some information just in case. Good luck! Smiley heart
