Our Love Story Behind every relationship, there's a story and our love story started 18 years ago... Our Beginning Where it all began Our story began 18 years ago in a 9th grade Language Arts class at Dillard High School. Trevor and I were selected, by our teacher, to play the roles of Romeo and Juliet in our class play. To this day, neither of us know what it was that made our teacher choose us as the leads. Maybe she saw something that we didn't. Whatever it was....we now realize that God was just beginning to work on something that would be special. Ironically, during the course of our 4 years at Dillard, we had no other classes together. We hung with a different group of friends. We really do not remember seeing each other again...weird! Our Reconnection High school has ended and we've both gone on to live our lives and grow into adults. Trevor and I "reconnected" via Facebook in 2009. Although, we were Facebook friends, we rarely communicated with one another beyond the initial "hey how've you been" inbox upon accepting the friendship. From 2009 - 20011 we'd occasionally "like" or post a comment on each other's photos or status updates. So, for two years, we continued to live our separate lives. January 2011: For the first time since high school, we saw each other in person. We both attended the birthday dinner for a mutual friend/classmate at Ruby Tuesday. While I'm sure we found one another attractive (I mean, we'd both GROWN since high school *wink*), we didn't get a chance to converse. I was still in a relationship, that would soon come to an end, and he was still recovering from a long-term relationship that had ended only a couple months prior. So, back to our occassional facebook comments... Our NEW Beginning How We Found Ourselves December 2011: A couple classmates decide to organize a Dillard High c/o 98 "Reunion" Social at Dave & Busters....and WOW!! We'll each share our own stories here! Enjoy! Trevor's Story: The journey of my Queen and I started on a night in December 2011. What was simply supposed to be a gathering of old classmates, ultimately changed my life. I've gotta admit, I went there with a "Superman: look at me" complex. Hell, I was even being flirted with by other girls! As the night grew, it became obvious and one thing was for sure, I had to find a way to see her again. After bumbling around with my words, I finally asked her for her number. The irony of it all is that I did nothing with the number for weeks. I still would check out her Facebook profile every now and then, just to make sure no one was trying to make a move on my girl. LaNedra's Story: My intensions were to just go and hangout with some old classmates and friends. I didn't intend on staying too long, but didn't want to miss the opportunity to reconnect with some cool people. However, as we continued throughout the night, I found myself looking in his direction more and more. But, assumed the female that was joined to his hip was HIS FEMALE. So, out of respect, I kept my looks subtle (hey, I wasn't going to just stop looking)!! Eventually, the group decided to move on to the game room, but before we made it there, he grabbed me and said something to the effect of "Let's take a picture...Romeo & Juliet"...and that's the picture you see above! Later into the night, the gang's all having fun playing games, but different little groups are starting to break off (there were ALOT of us that night). Trevor, who I assumed was just being friendly with everyone, kind of grabbed my hand and asked me to put my number in his phone. I did, and we continued in our separate groups. By now, it's about 1am. Most classmates have said their good-byes, but I'm still hanging out with about 4 others. We're just sitting, vibing, and catching up. Who walks past us, stops, looks back, and takes a seat??? TREVOR JOHNSON! *I later found out that he was on his way to the restroom....he never made it there!* He takes a seat and we all continue to talk and laugh...until we're, politely, kicked out at about 2am! We all go outside, where I see that a few others were still there as well, including who I thought was his Lady. He's on one side of the parking lot with "them" and I'm on the other side with a couple of my girls. I'd parked a little farther them everyone else, so I said my good-byes and started walking, when I hear "Wait up!" I look over and see Trevor running towards me. He wants to walk me to my car...not a problem! We hug and chit chat a bit as I get into the car. On the ride home, I think....I'm definitely interested! But, I wasn't expecting anything to happen! Our First Date He asked...She accepted...It's official LaNedra's Story: Two weeks after reconnecting at Dave and Busters, we met up for our first date on December 17, 2011. The dinner and conversation at Bonefish Grill were absolutely amazing...and quite refreshing. We both knew that we'd be spending more time together! Over the next few weeks we'd spend everyday with each other, either in person or on the phone. We'd meet family members and begin discussing what we were each looking for in a relationship/mate. While we consider ourselves having been "together" since our first date, we "officially" became a couple on January 1, 2012 when Trevor asked me "if I would be his girlfriend?" No guy had ever asked me that before...and it was sweet to be asked by my King! Trevor's Story: After reconnecting at Dave & Buster's I finally asked her out and she said yes. Naturally, some roadblocks arose in the way of a thirsty ex-girlfriend and car problems, but in the end...we had our date. It was very enjoyable, to say the least, even though I was nervous at first. Based on our dinner convo and the vibe of the night, I knew we had hit it off. From that night, we were attached at the hip. From the walks on the beach, the dinners, and movies, I knew she was the one. We made it official on January 1st. Our Proposal He Loved Her So Much...He Put A Ring On It! We knew very early on that THIS WAS IT! It was great being able to connect with someone in such a way that it erased any questions of "what if". While I knew that Trevor was going to "officially" ask me to be his wife, I had NO idea when or where it would occur. June 22, 2012 was my cousin NaTasha's 30th birthday. She had recently given birth, so she was unable to really celebrate with the big party like she'd planned. The following week, I received a text from her husband stating that he would be throwing her a surprise birthday party on Friday, June 29th at Olive Garden. Of course, I responded that Trevor and I would be in attendance! I wouldn't miss that for the world! Around this same time, Trevor had begun acting "strange". I couldn't really put my finger on what "it" was....but something had consumed his thoughts. He'd started receiving more text messages than usual (I trust him, so I wasn't concerned). He'd also started bringing up marriage more. I knew that it would be soon, but the soon I was thinking of was like within the next 3-6 months. *** Trevor's Story: As the days and months went on, I started feeling like I couldn't live without her. So on June 29th, I asked my Queen would she do me the honor of taking my last name and being mine forever.*** We'd left the house on that Friday with me thinking that I was going to a birthday dinner...boy was I in for a surprise! Upon walking to our section of the restaurant, I saw nearly all of my family and some of my closest friends....some of which were not friends with my cousin. BIG QUESTION MARK! After walking around for a little while with a confused face and hugging everyone, my King stands up and begins to thank everyone for coming. Suddenly, I hear someone singing "Never Felt This Way" by Brian McKnight. After getting my thoughts together, I realized that NaTasha is serenading me, Trevor is PROPOSING to me, and EVERYONE was in on this. Needless to say, I said "YES"!! Special thanks to my Mommy, Shequesta, NaTasha, and Chakka for helping in the planning of what was, so far, the best night of my life! Our Union The Day We Become ONE I am elated to know that on Sunday, April 21, 2013 I will be marrying my best friend! I cannot wait to walk down the isle and see him standing at the end smiling...and crying! I cannot wait to hear those words...."I now pronouce you HUSBAND and WIFE" and know that I will get to spend the REST of my life loving him and being loved unconditionally by him.
