My fiancé and I both hail from Queens, NY. I work in city government and he is an ER nurse. We met a little over ten years ago, when I was working at my first job as a grocery store cashier. He worked in the deli department and came over to help me to bag groceries during a busy spell and from that moment on became one of my closest friends. We even ended up at the same college, which is a bit random given the number of options in NY. He's three years older than me, so he did his best to make sure I didn't get into too much trouble while on his turf. We each dated other people over the years and towards the end of my junior year of college, I went through a very difficult break up with my then boyfriend. FH and I had lost touch at that point and hadn't spoken in a few months, but he sent me a message to see how I had been holding up. We picked up right where we had left off and it was like I suddenly had my best friend back. He and his then girlfriend were going through a break up as well, so we really knew what the other was dealing with. Our first date was a night mini-golfing near our college followed by breakfast for dinner and it couldn't have been sweeter. Three and a half years later, we moved in together to test the waters of our long term relationship. After a few bumps, we fell into an easy rhythm that just makes being together feel like home. Now, after 5 and a half years together, he’s popped the question and we are on our way to being officially the family that we have been to each other unofficially for a very long time.
