Amazon Wedding Registry?

smsterner94, on August 25, 2014 at 11:47 AM Posted in Planning 0 20

Does anyone have any experience with Amazon Wedding Registries? It seems like a good idea to me just from the sheer variety of items you can register for, and online shopping is always convenient, but are there any faux pas about this? Just curious.

I think if my husband thought of this he would have campaigned for it!! I would say have a second registry that has a real store as some guests like to go make purchases in-store, but why not?

I have Amazon as my main registry and love it!! It allows people to buy things at different stores and mark it as purchased online. Also it comes in handy when someone buys a gift and sends it to your house without a note because of their Thank You Note feature! It tells you who bought what items =] Definitely recommend!!!

Agree with Kimberly....Your older guests who aren't so savvy in the world of online shopping would appreciate the registry at a brick and mortar store that they can walk into...as a last minute shopper myself, I would prefer that but would like the Amazon should I ever get on the ball and do things early!

I have an Amazon registry as well as BBB and Target. Amazon also has a feature called "Universal Registry". This enables you to add items from other stores, such as Pottery Barn, to your Amazon registry. This allows you to pick the items you want from different stores without having 15 registries and not be "stuck" with just the offerings of the stores you picked. Smiley smile

Its a fun option, but keep in mind Amazon has outside sellers, so you may pick an item that is $20 but has $20 shipping and/or takes 17-28 days to deliver. its a mixed bag. and returning a gift thru Amazon is a bit trickier than a store.

I have Amazon and BBB. Most people seem more comfortable buying from BBB and I have found it easier to navigate the registry through BBB as well. I think if I was more savvy I would like Amazon better. I do like the variety and you are not just stuck with what BBB has to offer. I'm having a difficult time primarily on the bedding choices myself.

Cool, I will definitely consider it! I would probably use it as one option, not the only option. We still want to register at Bed, Bath and Beyond or Kohl's so that people who like to shop in person have the option to. Thanks for all the great responses!

I love our Amazon registry. The Thank you note feature is awesome as someone else pointed out. We also have a BBB registry.

I'd suggest one brink-and-mortar store registry so that the old timers can find it and also do the Amazon. I did the same (bed bath and beyond) and had cards printed up with both registry details, gave them to mom for the bridal shower invites

We will definitely do an Amazon registry! I don't have any experience in the wedding registry, however I did throw a baby shower that had an Amazon registry. My fw and I were the only ones that used it, but I prefer it because of the convenience. Also I'm a prime member so I click the prime only button and get free 2-day shipping. You could also do most "brick and mortar" store registries online I believe.

We loved the Amazon "universal registry." It enabled us to have one central place where guests could find all our items, instead of having to look at several different sites. It's not a faux pas. However, do bear in mind that some guests may prefer to shop at a brick and mortar store, so you may want to have some option that allows them to do that.

We did both Amazon and Macy's registry. We have had great experiences with both stores. I've also found most of our gifts have come from Amazon. =)

I LOVE it!! You can add items from any site thanks to the "universal wish list", AND you get to see who has gotten you what through the "Thank You List" (already been a life saver for stuff that came without a note). A lot of people also have Prime memberships, so shipping will be free for them on most items.

As others have suggested, you should also have at least one registry at an actual store people can go into.

I have one and it's been OK. I signed up because I wanted a catch all that I could put the things that weren't available at the other store I registered at, and use their universal wish list feature. It is really nice that someone can buy you the same item from any store and you (or they if they know what they are doing) can mark it as fulfilled. The other stores, you just have to delete the item if that happens.

My gripe? Amazon changes their listings. So, if you add something that is Prime/Free Shipping and fulfilled by amazon, a week later it could be much more expensive, charged for shipping, and fulfilled by an amazon seller (not amazon directly). One example, I put a $13 item on the list. Apparently amazon sold out and it reverted to a company in Japan that was selling the same item for $110 and $20 shipping that would take 4-6 weeks. I caught it and changed it, but it's frustrating to track. I would be mortified if one of my less techno savvy guests took the bait on an item like that.

I have an amazon one I love it, make sure to only register for things from amazon because you can't return anything from thirdparty sellers unless you contact the gift purchaser!

I did BBB and a small kitchen store, then Amazon for everything I couldn't find anywhere else. I wanted to make sure to have a physical store for anyone who wanted one, but the Amazon one is amazing.

My friends are getting married in November and they have an Amazon registry. I think it's fine.
