Food and drink are a major part of the wedding experience (no one wants hangry guests!), so it’s no surprise that you’ll spend a big amount of your total budget on your wedding catering. The average wedding catering cost in the U.S. is about $4,000 with most couples spending between $1,800 to $7,000. What is included in a wedding catering package?

Your wedding catering may be provided by your wedding venue, or you may want or need to hire an outside caterer. Reading a wedding catering contract can be a bit confusing, but in general, your wedding catering cost will be priced on a “per person” basis. A standard wedding catering package includes the following:

Food: The wedding food cost is the most obvious part of a wedding catering package. You’re paying for the actual food that your guests will eat during cocktail hour and the main meal. Whether it’s served plated or buffet style is up to you and your caterer.
Beverages: Your caterer will likely provide beverages, both alcoholic and not, for your big day.

What are the different ways to serve wedding reception food?

When determining your wedding food cost, a big factor will be how you’re planning on serving the meal. There are a few serving style options for weddings:

Plated: Otherwise known as a sit-down meal, your guests will be served their meal at their table by a member of the wait staff. There may be a single entrée option served or several entrée options, which your guests can either order in advance (usually on their RSVP card) or at the event. This is the most formal and traditional of wedding serving styles.
Buffet: For a more casual serving style, guests serve themselves from a buffet station. Fifty percent of couples choose a buffet-style reception.

Catered Affairs handled so much of the wedding. They were in charge of setting up the ceremony chairs, breaking everything down setting up the cocktail area, making the dance floor, and setting up an area to eat. We did a cocktail style reception. They also had to break everything down. It was so fast and done so efficiently! The food was amazing and we received so many compliments! There was a ton of food everyone was very satisfied. They had great options to choose from and we were impressed by everything! They were also very flexible, responsive, and provided everything so we didn't need to worry about anything. It was nice to have the food and linens and chairs etc handled by one team-took away some of the stress. Martina was super nice and great to work with!

Craig was awesome. He came recommended by a couple of the other vendors I used for my wedding (having a wedding not in the town you live in is a challenge so we had to trust our other vendors referrals when choosing everyone). Craig came highly recommended so we stopped in there to talk to him on our recon trip in December, we told him what we were planning, he told us what he will typically do for a catering event (setup to cook on-site, brings all the plates, utensils, napkins etc and what food he typically cooks fish or chicken, shrimp scampi, pot roast, veggie, salad bar and rice) so we were sold (even without eating one bite of his food). We did stop in to eat there once arriving a few days before the wedding and the food is good! Everyone at the wedding was raving about the food he cooked (since the groom and I were busy taking photos, we didn't want to hold everyone up from eating so we opened the buffet, he made sure to hold back a plate for us so we could try everything). One of my guest stopped in the restaurant to eat lunch the next day and was raving about his fish sandwich. I would definitely recommend Craig for catering or just a bite to eat at the restaurant. Good food, good service, great choice.

Simply talk to Karen Dennis, sample her food and visit "The Stuffed Pig" in Marathon, Fl Keys. We were thoroughly pleased with Karen Dennis and her team. She provided the catering for our son's Rehearsal Dinner at the Aquarium Encounter in May of this year. The food was superb, her staff wonderful (especially Judy), and the presentation and service top notch. I met with Karen and spoke with her over the phone on several occasions. She planned a wonderful menu buffet style of Pecan crusted Snapper with Mango Salsa, Chicken Marsala, seasonal vegetables with rice, and rolls followed by deserts of chocolate brownies and Key Lime tarts. Our guests were thrilled. In addition there was one hour of passed oers d'oeuvres . Our guests raved about the Lobster Fritters. We provided our own beer, and wine and liquor which was a great value for us. The affair was at the Aquarium Encounters right there in Marathon. A perfect setting with the bright tanks for a backdrop. The wedding couple were so delighted with the food, service and ambiance. A perfect affair for all of the wedding party and their guests the evening before the big day. We fit 57 guests quite comfortably. Thanks Karen for a wonderful job!

Words cannot express how happy we were with choosing Bistro Sole' as our caterer!! The food was quoted as being "the best wedding meal I have ever eaten!" The presentation was beautiful and well done. Since our meal was buffet style, they could have just set out some pans in a clean manner. They added flowers and had everything arranged in a classic, lovely style. The staff went above and beyond to create a custom menu for our wedding. Chef Jon even created special appetizers to accommodate the bride. We interviewed several caterers and Bistro Sole' was the only one to provide us with tastings and a suggested menu. We can't say enough great things about them. Thank you for making our wedding meal so perfect. Special thanks to Donna and Chef Jon!!

The quality of the food was very high, the presentation flawless, and the service impeccable. Overall, a PERFECT experience! Her energy and love for fine cuisine were evident in the incredible details. The decor she brought was beautiful and just added more to the experience!
