About

After my ordination by Joseph H. Gelberman, an orthodox rabbi who founded the first interfaith seminary, I started Congregation Jewbilation (Jewish roots with interfaith wings). Leading a congregation led to offering life cycle ceremonies to members and the public as well as starting a Hebrew School for Jewish-interfaith families. These experiences led to blogging about religious education for an interspiritual age which ultimately led to writing. I am a frequent contributor to the Washtenaw Jewish News.

I have also published a book, BELONG TO THE WORLD BRING YOUR TRIBE: A NEW VISION FOR JUDAISM (Amazon KDP) that can be read as a guide to reimagining your religion. The book could not be more timely at this point in Jewish history and in the phenomenology of spirit.

Prior to independent teaching, I taught youth at a synagogue religious school. I also served on the board of a local Interfaith Round Table, designed interfaith educational programs for the local community and for international students attending the University of Michigan.

I enjoy personalizing wedding ceremonies to reflect the stories and cultural backgrounds as well as aspirations of each couple. I devote heartfelt time and energy to getting to know each couple, designing an outline in consultation with them, and developing it for their big day, and delivering a unique experience.

My weddings integrate rituals from different faiths, represent one or more spiriual tradition, reflect a secular path, OR deliver something new. I have worked with cllients from Jewish, Catholic, Protestant, Hindu, Buddhist, Muslim, Native American, and/or Non-Religious backgrounds/interests.

My homilies develop from taking time to understand what brings and holds each couple together to tell their story. One groom's grandfather summed up his grandson's wedding as follows, “I’ve been to a lot of weddings in my life, and I mean a lot. This was the best ever by far.” - August 2021

Lauren was the highlight of our wedding day!

Our names are Sarah and Matt and we got married in August of 2021! We are so lucky to have found an officiant like Lauren and will never ever forget how she made our day so memorable. It was very important for us to have a ceremony that revolved around the love Matt and I have for each other, our family and also our friends, as we are not religious. Lauren took immense care in gathering our ideas surrounding this over numerous conversations and transformed our thoughts into the most lovely and unforgettable ceremony. She also helped us navigate having a ceremony during a global pandemic and helped us add details that made seeing our family and friends (some of whom we had not seen for years) extra touching. What is even more amazing to us is that after our ceremony, every other guest we spoke with immediately (and unprompted) brought up Lauren and how much they loved her. Here are some of the things our closest friends and family said...

"This was the most intimate and heartwarming ceremony I have ever been to..."
"I've heard your love story before, but she touched on it in a way that made my heart burst..."
"She was a breath of fresh air compared to the other weddings I've been to..."
"How did you even find her?! Every single word she said stuck with me..."
"I love how she had a sense of humor and made us laugh!"
"The stories she told reflected your life so beautifully..."
"She was amazing, simply amazing and thought provoking..."

We cannot recommend Lauren enough and can't imagine our special day without her!

Lauren was very kind and welcoming from the time we met her at her home. She explained everything to us and worked with us on our budget. On the day of the ceremony, Lauren came very prepared to officiate our wedding. The words she spoke were beautiful and memorable. She made our wedding very special and the special touches were unforgettable as well. We would definitely recommend her to anyone.

Lauren was the perfect officiant to help us plan our custom wedding ceremony , providing a guiding, knowledgeable hand in every step of the process while making sure that we felt comfortable with and were in control of what we were doing. She is professional but warm and friendly as well, and extremely organized. I would absolutely recommend her to anybody wanting to create their own interfaith wedding ceremony.

Lauren Zinn did a wonderful job officiating at our wedding. She was extremely responsive to our desire for a unique ceremony, and brought lots of ideas and enthusiasm to our planning. We appreciated the fact that she spent time getting to know us as the day approached, and thought she did a terrific job on the day of the event.
We're all about trust. Our community relies on honest reviews to help you make those big decisions with ease.
