Nestled against a wooded slope in the private and secluded Saratoga hills is VILLA MONTALVO at Montalvo Arts Center, a lovely complex with a variety of venues for concerts, weddings, corporate events and private parties. For weddings, the focal point of this estate is its beautiful Mediterranean-style mansion, Villa Montalvo. Built in 1912 as the private summer residence of Senator James Duval Phelan, this National Register Historic Landmark is now home to an arboretum and a nonprofit center for the arts.
An inviting one-way road leads up to Villa Montalvo. As you round the last turn, you get your first glimpse of the estate's expansive manicured lawns and colorful gardens, as well as the mansion's terracotta-tile roof, light stucco walls and wide veranda. To your left, you'll also see the Love Temple, one of two ceremony sites on the grounds; it's an open-air, white-columned pavilion set at the end of a wide brick path featuring historic marble statues. Couples get married on its steps, with a view of the surrounding Mediterranean garden and the Villa and woods in the background.
Directly behind the Villa, the Oval Garden offers a lush garden setting complete with classical statues and wisteria-covered pergolas. This open-air courtyard is an intimate and delightful place for a ceremony; a brick pathway serves as the center aisle, and a column-supported arcade is the backdrop for taking vows.
On June 9th, 2016, we christened a brand new garden, the West Lawn Garden, adjacent to the Oval Garden. It can easily seat over 300 for a wedding ceremony. It has a beautiful lawn, pergola and is surrounded by lush landscaping and 100 year old trees. It's also another area for the cocktail reception following a ceremony in the Oval Garden.
The Villa's entire first floor, verandas, courtyards, gardens and outdoor grounds are available for ceremonies and seated dinners for up to 350 guests (more for stand-up receptions or with tenting). For larger weddings, up to 400 guests can be accommodated by tenting the Great Lawn. After the ceremony, guests can mingle in the Spanish Courtyard, enjoying cocktails and hors d'oeuvres and then move onto the Veranda for a majestic seated dinner while enjoying splendid views of the Great Lawn. The ornate fireplaces can be filled with glowing candles in the summer or warm cozy fires in the winter. Wedding ceremonies & receptions can be held indoors during the winter months. We look forward to meeting with you and touring the historic Villa and gardens.

We got married here earlier this year since it had been my dream venue for a couple of years. Tiffany and Kathleen are so great to work with! They both were very responsive to my emails and was able to answer all my questions. Tiffany was very attentive and thorough with any/all of our requests. We absolutely LOVEDDDDD getting married here.

This review is half for the venue and half for Tiffany! Venue - amazing, you can't get married in a better place. The flow is perfect , from ceremony to cocktails, to dinner, to dancing. Our guest flowed in and out of the venue with ease and everyone loved how it felt so private and tucked away in the middle of the South Bay. Now...the only downside, the price. It is EXPENSIVE, twice as much as some other venues. But you do get the whole place to yourself...and the venue is so amazing, you save in decoration. And with such a beautiful venue, there's no end to beautiful photo ops.
The venue comes with chairs (though most couples upgrade since they're the ugly white folding ones), but all the tables are avail for you to use. There is a set of preferred Vendors, you have to use a preferred caterer, but the rest is up to you to use anyone you wish. My one complaint was no drone footage, which we found out AFTER we signed the contract, as it was not stated anywhere on their contract.
Now the real star of the place was Tiffany, she was our contact person. She's amazing to work with, and was so responsive and sweet. She answered all my emails right away and helped us with everything. Kathleen, we met once, knows the place in and out and is strict on protecting the venue, which is understandable. Talk to Kathleen and she'll help you design the wedding layout in five seconds.
Overall, we are very happy with our experience and are glad we can return here anytime as it's a public park, to reminisce on our magical night.

We had the most amazing experience at Montalvo. We toured the facility with Tiffany and she could not have been more welcoming and easy to work with. She was actually one of the key reasons we loved the place. Tiffany and Kathleen are so organized and made sure the entire event went off with no issues. It doesn't hurt that the venue is completely gorgeous! We had the perfect day and all of the guests couldn't get over the grounds and the setup for our wedding. I would highly, highly recommend Villa Montalvo - not only for the setting but the wonderful people you get to work with!!
Kathleen and Tiffany are top notch and everything we as a coordination team are looking for! We coordinated a wedding at Villa Montalvo for one of our couples at the beginning of April, that's right, rainy season, and they were so helpful!! Tiffany had a back up plan for our back up plan just in case the rain forecasted for that day didn't stop at noon like we were hoping. From the beginning they showed us around the venue and gave insight and ideas to make our planning process that much easier; and on the day they were just as hands on, helping to keep the estate warm and cozy for the guests and aiding in us getting all set up and tear flowing perfectly. Not only is the venue a lovely piece of history, lending to many photo perfect spots, it comes with a friendly and supportive staff too <3
There is nothing more elegant than a wedding at Villa Montalvo, and there is no better and more attentive care for clients either! Kathleen and her staff bend over backwards for their brides and grooms. I can't wait to work there again!
BIG FUN Disc Jockeys is a big fan of Villa Montalvo, having played weddings and corporate events at the venue many times annually for more than a decade.

For couples thinking of finding a place to get married, Villa Montalvo offers multiple options and spaces to celebrate your day, from the Love Temple or the Oval Garden for the ceremony, to cocktails in the courtyard, dinner on the veranda, and dancing inside the Historic Villa. The different rooms and spaces keep it interesting for the guests, yet everything is interconnected with the same thematic feel.

As DJs, we are particularly fond of the dancing portion of the evening inside the main room of the Villa, but photographers love the veranda for shooting toasts and dinner moments, as the front of the building is spectacular, usually with great light in spring, summer, and fall evenings.

Getting married at Villa Montalvo feels like something special. If you are looking for a classic wedding at a historic site, Villa Montalvo should be on your short list.
