Union Mills October 2019 Wedding
Our experience with Union Mills was absolutely wonderful! The venue (both inside the barn and outside) is incredibly beautiful. Tom was so easy to work with and was extremely helpful throughout the whole planning process, and especially the day of the wedding. We had some scattered rain the day of our wedding which obviously is the last thing you want when your ceremony is supposed to be outside. Thankfully with Union Mills they have a back up plan incase it's raining too hard but Tom kept track of the radar and helped us adjust our ceremony time so we could still have the outdoor ceremony that we had been dreaming of. When you book with Union Mills, Tom is the Caterer (Kountry Kafe and Catering). I was initially skeptical of a venue that requires you to use their caterer, however, but my Wife and I were extremely happy with all of the food and how much easier it made the whole process since you would be working with Tom for both the venue and the food. My wife and I would highly recommend this venue to anyone who is looking for a rustic venue!

Union Mills Homestead Wedding
When picking a venue, we decided there's simply no place like home. Union Mills Homestead is a historic staple in Carroll County with beautiful scenery and a beautiful tannery perfect for a wedding. Cost was more than reasonable. We were given the day before and after for set up, rehearsal and cleanup.

Union Mills Homestead was a wonderful wedding venue! They were so easy to work with from start to finish and completely reasonable. It was a beautiful setting to have our big day take place, and they could not have been more kind throughout the process.

This venue was absolutely perfect! Tom was a breeze to work with. It was affordable flexible and so beautiful! We had 125 guests and it didn't feel too tight. These guys were so good to us. The food was amazing and you could provide your own alcohol, so that saved us a ton. They provide the bar tender. I highly recommend Union Mills.

Union Mills Homestead is the perfect place for a wedding! The time we got married was too hot and humid because it just rained but through the caterer, you can rent big fans because the venue does not have any air-conditioning. If you have a Sunday wedding you can set up the place only during the day of or after the wedding there on saturday but you will have the whole monday to clean up. The barn is already decorated with tulle, paper lanterns and string lights. It's very beautiful. The surrounding area is picturesque. They said when you choose a venue, you need to also see if the area will provide you with beautiful backdrops for your wedding photos, and this area did.

Union Mills is an absolutely beautiful venue!! The tannery is a perfect option for anyone looking for a rustic themed wedding. There is so much character to the building already, that we felt we didn't need to bring in a whole lot of décor The paper globe lights and string lights are there all the time!). If you're looking to do an outdoor ceremony, you have options! I really can't say enough about Union Mills! We received so many compliments on how beautiful it was! You are required to go through their caterer (Tom w/ Kountry Kitchen), but they are just as wonderful!!

The barn is absolutely beautiful and Tom is easy to work with. He was understanding when my fiance and I had to push our date back a year and is always available to answer questions. We still have a year and a half until our wedding, but the experience booking this venue has been great so far.

The day following our engagement I knew I wanted to book the Union Mills Homestead for my reception. Thankfully time was in our favor and we were able to book the homestead for our August wedding. Tom and his crew were always responsive, professional, and so helpful. It made it so much easier that Tom handles both rentals and catering and allows two days at the homestead so that i could put my personal touches on the tannery the day before the wedding. All of our friends and family raved about how delicious the food was! I would highly recommend Union Mills for any bride that wants a rustic/shabby chic/country/simple/romantic etc. wedding that is budget friendly.

First of all, it's difficult to separate reviews of the Homestead, POC Jane Sewell, and Kountry Kafe, their mandatory caterer and de facto DOC, so you can look at both when you're considering this venue.
The homestead is a historic property about 45 minutes west of Baltimore, or 90 minutes north of DC/Arlington/Alexandria VA. Held in trust, it is the former home of the Shriver family, and is still a working 18th century gristmill (grain mill). The property is on a massive park, with open fields, stands of old trees, a running brooke used to power the mill, and several out buildings besides the house, including a blacksmith shop, and a barn known as The Tannery. There's a small ornamental fishpond on the property that's the usual location for weddings, but we married with the side of the barn as our backdrop, and you can also marry in the open field, if you like.
There is plenty of parking on site, and the site is accessible except for the fishpond. The barn comes PRE-DECORATED with fairy lights, white tulle draped in the rafters, and white paper lanterns. See pics on Google, or my BAM links to our photos. The barn is not air conditioned or heated, and they only book weddings from April-October, so if you want this space, book EARLY! And you get the space for the WHOLE DAY.
They take a 50% deposit down, $450, and a $100 deposit that is held till after the wedding, in case you make an extra big mess, or something gets broken. They return the $100 check after the wedding. The balance $450 is due a few weeks before the event. This is separate from the catering cost, which is handled directly through Kountry Kafe.
I cannot tell you how beautiful this venue is. I cannot tell you how lovely everyone is to work with. I cannot tell you how many options it provides for guests to enjoy themselves... My photographer LOVED this venue, and was "spoilt for choice" when it came to backdrops for our photos. Great for reunions & plenty room for kids to play!
