In 1954, Thomas H. Shartle, Sr purchased the property on FM 3187 to be used as the headquarters for Hickory Creek Ranch. The property extended from SH 7 East to SH 21 East and included over 4000 contiguous acres. In addition to this there were several other tracts of timber and pasture land around Houston and Leon Counties bringing the total acreage to 9000 .
Following the death ofTom Sr. in 1997, the cattle business was sold as well as all the pasture land except the headquarters.
In 2003 the remaining pasture known as the headquarters of Hickory Creek Ranch was purchased by grandson Wade Shartle and wife Jenni and consists of 360 acres of pasture land surrounded by 1,300 acres of pine timber land that is still owned by members of Thomas H. Shartle, Sr.'s family.
In 2013 Wade and Jenni's daughter decided that she wanted to get married in the old hay barn located on the property. This sparked the idea for a total renovation and the creation of a rustic wedding venue. In four months time, the old hay barn, originally built in 1951, was transformed into an elegant venue with beautifully stained concrete floors, large chandeliers and the addition of an air conditioned bride's room and bathrooms.
The Shartle family diligently worked to create a unique venue that in perfect for any event, not only will you and your guest be able to enjoy the rustic elegance of a restored barn; they will also have the benefit of a gorgeous view of a 31 acre private lake
"It is our hope that you will enjoy the beauty of Hickory Creek Ranch as much as we do."
