Starscape Studios is the Lake Tahoe photography studio of Kimmi Cranes, a documentary wedding photographer.

Kimmi photographs weddings, elopements, and proposals with a documentary approach—observing quietly, guiding when needed, and preserving the genuine moments that unfold naturally. Her work is known for timeless imagery, true-to-life color, and a calm, unobtrusive presence that allows couples to fully experience their day.

Her work has been ranked internationally by the Wedding Photojournalist Association — Top 100 International Photographers, Artistic Guild (2025), and Top 150 International Wedding Photographers (2023) — and she is a member of Fearless Photographers and a WW Couples' Choice Award winner (2023).

Based in South Lake Tahoe, Kimmi photographs celebrations throughout Lake Tahoe, Truckee, Reno, Northern California, and destinations worldwide. Fully insured.

Elopement Photography

We are so thankful to Starscape Studios for capturing our wedding day so beautifully. Kimmi did an absolutely amazing job and made the entire experience feel so special and stress-free. She was kind, professional, and truly went above and beyond to make our day even more memorable. Incredible Experience with an Incredible Photographer!

Kimmi is simply fabulous. I've never been to Lake Tahoe, but decided on the location for our elopement. I spent days and days googling and going through reviews of photographers and when I came across Starscape Studios' website, I just had a feeling this was the one. Kimmi walked me through everything I needed to know and gave me great insight on different locations to have the ceremony (along with recommendations on restaurants and hair/makeup). When we finally met her (in person) for our ceremony, it was like she had been my friend all along! She was so easy going, listened to what we wanted and captured the most gorgeous photos ever! I highly recommend!

Kimmi is the BEST!

Kimmi was absolutely incredible to work with! Kimmi helped my fiancé plan every detail of our proposal in Lake Tahoe – from choosing the perfect spot and time to even suggesting where to celebrate with dinner afterward. During the shoot, Kimmi made us feel so comfortable, and the whole session was filled with laughter and joy. Our photos turned out so authentic and beautifully captured the moment – they’re truly some of my favorite memories ever!

Perfectly planned proposal

Kimmi was an amazing photographer. She helped massively in picking the best location around Lake Tahoe for our proposal and most importantly , how to keep it a surprise.

The directions to the proposal spot and communication was very clear and Kimmi made us feel very comfortable throughout the shoot. Our photos came out beautifully, and even managed to capture the sunset.

I would highly recommend Kimmi for the perfect proposal and photos package.

Wonderful job!

Lake Tahoe proposal

Dreamy Emerald Bay Elopement

The perfect photographer to capture memories of your special day

Kimmi from Starscape Studios did a wonderful job photographing our wedding. We had a small, intimate at home ceremony and Kimmi was able to capture the happiness expressed through all of our guests. Our best man was our pitbull-lab mix who was the absolute star of the evening, and his radiance was perfectly captured. Her work is very detail oriented and communication was top notch. These photos will bring smiles to faces for years to come. I highly recommend Starscape Studios to memorialize your special event!
