Porter was amazing to work with. From the initial communications, I knew she would be the perfect fit for us. She was accommodating to the style of pictures we wanted and was sooo good with our puppy and included him in the shots when we wanted.

Porter was great at communicating and her pictures were finished in a timely manner - we didn’t have to wait months like some of my friends have waited! In two weeks we got all our shots and they were stunning.

She also handled the Covid protocols perfectly and had a mask and stayed far away which made us feel comfortable.

I hope to work with Porter again for a family photo shoot. Her pictures are perfect!

The short version of this review: Porter was easy to work with, the photos are amazing, and we genuinely had fun taking them. I would hire Porter again in a second - I can't recommend her enough!

The (very) long version: We needed a photographer for our small, backyard covid wedding and Porter was PERFECT. Here are just a few reasons I would recommend her to anyone:

-Taking portraits with Porter was SO FUN! My partner and I both dislike having our photos taken and expected to feel uncomfortable, but Porter had us laughing within minutes! She struck a great balance between giving us direction when we wanted it (which we did!) and following our lead when we didn't. The photos really capture our personalities and it's obvious we were having fun.

-The photos themselves are amazing. We didn't want that blown-out look that's popular with wedding photography. Porter's photos are rich and saturated and gorgeous. The editing highlights the little details and the fall colors without looking unrealistic. It was exactly what we were looking for!

-Porter was extremely communicative. We planned our wedding from out-of-state in only two months. Porter was quick with email responses and made time to chat when I had questions, which made everything easy. She was friendly, professional, asked us lots of questions about what we wanted, and was clear about what to expect from her. She even gave me advice when I asked her for makeup tips that would look good in photos! She really went above and beyond the whole way.

-As a plus-sized woman, I was nervous about feeling comfortable and the photos being both realistic and flattering. Porter sent me several examples of photos she'd done with plus sized brides and really put my mind at ease. It's hard to be open about that, and I REALLY appreciated that Porter took me seriously without making a huge deal out of it. Honestly, I was hoping to like one or two photos enough to print, but I love them ALL!

-She charges by the hour, so we didn't have to hire someone for the full day when our wedding was only about 90 minutes. Her rates are competitive and she worked with us to stay within our budget.

-She took covid precautions seriously and was very respectful of our and our guests' comfort levels.

-Porter had the photos done in two weeks!

Hire Porter - I promise you'll be glad you did!

Porter was really great, photographing our tiny elopement! We did couple's shots at the botanical garden and the west side of the Capitol, and then she took photos of the ceremony on a sidewalk in the shade of the Capitol. Porter was very professional and prepared, and she made sure to ask for, and take photos of, the various configurations of family members that we wanted. She was also patient while we waited for our out-of-town family, who'd gotten lost, to arrive. We booked a two-hour appointment, but ended up finishing a little early. She had 119 color photos for us to download nine days later. They are a wonderful reminder of our celebration and we love how they turned out!

Porter has an incredible eye! She set up each photo perfectly, and we absolutely loved how they turned out. She does not wash out her photos in editting which is so common these days-- the photos are natural and beautiful.

She also did a wonderful job making me and my fiance comfortable in front of the camera, which is no small feat! I was so worried I would hate how I looked, but I just look like the happiest version of myself thanks to her easy prompts and general vibe. I recommend her to anyone!

I had been following Porter Watkins Photography on Instagram for a while and I love how she has the mix of artistic yet intimate moments in her photography style. She was originally scheduled to take my wedding pictures on April 11th. However, due to COVID concerns, my original wedding venue cancelled in Washington DC and I was disappointed that I would not be working with Porter.

With the more unknowns cropping every day, we decided to move our intimate wedding celebration to my parents’ backyard in Northern Virginia with our immediate family by our side on March 20, 2020. Though it was not the wedding I planned for months, I was still able to marry the man I love. I reached out to Porter 72 hours before the wedding, hoping she would be available for this reimagined ceremony.

Lucky for me, she was available. Her process made everything easy and stress-free. Though it was short notice, she was happy to help and calmed me down during our first phone conversation. Oh, and I accidentally paid her a little extra and she sent me the additional payment back right away. How many people would do that?!


On our wedding day, she arrived early to check out the neighborhood and got to work right away. My now-husband and I are two people who do not like being in front of the camera, but I knew it was important to capture our wedding. Porter put us at ease and was able to capture very special moments. No one could tell in some of these pictures that we got married in my parents’ yard. Moreover, she was on time, responsive, and supportive through all the unique challenges.

With her professionalism and talent, I would highly recommend picking her for your photography needs. Thank you so much for everything!

Porter was fantastic! We are so happy we worked with her for our tiny wedding of 10 people. She was super responsive and a great communicator in the lead up to the event. She was flexible when we changed our plans a few times in the lead up. Her photographs were beautiful - we could not be more pleased! And for two people who do not particularly enjoy posing for the camera, her bubbly and chilled-out personality made us feel totally comfortable and at ease, as if we were just hanging out with a friend rather than creating portraits to hang over the fireplace for years to come. She was perfect from our point of view!

I first saw Porter's photography as a groomsman in a friend's wedding, and I thought she did such great work that my wife and I hired her to photograph our own recent wedding in Annapolis.

Porter takes absolutely amazing pictures, but also does a great job at getting everyone together for the wedding party and family photos, which can be a real challenge. She is also very responsive to calls and emails, and got us our pictures back in almost no time at all.

Seriously, I cannot recommend Porter enough!

We were so happy with our choice for Porter. We wanted beautiful weddings photos, that weren't cheesy or overdone. We loved how Porter beautifully captures the emotion of a moment. For us she did just that. We loved our engagement photos, and our weddings photos were absolutely stunning. She made us comfortable to work with and was able to get all of the looks that we wanted, and some pictures we never thought we'd be lucky enough to have. We can't recommend Porter highly enough. Porter photographed our wedding a few weeks ago as well as a complimentary engagement photo session several months prior to that. She was by far our favorite wedding vendor of everyone we worked with and I would not hesitate to recommend her services to anyone. Porter is the perfect mix of very organized/responsive/confidant and very down to earth/laid back/fun to be around. Her style of letting people be themselves and capturing candid shots rather than forcing lots of posed photos enabled us to be relaxed and have fun during photo sessions and on our wedding day. After the wedding I told my fiancé that "I hardly noticed Porter" and I meant that as the highest compliment - she blended into the background and did not interfere with the festivities at all yet managed to capture some great shots. She even put together a little photo collage/video for us for no extra charge which I absolutely love and can't stop watching.

We were introduced to Porter by our friends, who were really happy with their wedding shoot. We loved the fact that she mapped out the photo shoot venue in advance. She is a friendly person to work with and that made us comfortable throughout the shoot. She was quick with taking shots and produced awesome results. We love our wedding photographs.
