  Fun and easy to work with and stunning photos!

  Porter was amazing to work with. From the initial communications, I knew she would be the perfect fit for us. She was accommodating to the style of pictures we wanted and was sooo good with our puppy and included him in the shots when we wanted.
  
  Porter was great at communicating and her pictures were finished in a timely manner - we didn’t have to wait months like some of my friends have waited! In two weeks we got all our shots and they were stunning.
  
  She also handled the Covid protocols perfectly and had a mask and stayed far away which made us feel comfortable.
  
  I hope to work with Porter again for a family photo shoot. Her pictures are perfect!

  Colorful and Comfortable and US!

  Porter has an incredible eye! She set up each photo perfectly, and we absolutely loved how they turned out. She does not wash out her photos in editting which is so common these days-- the photos are natural and beautiful.
  
  She also did a wonderful job making me and my fiance comfortable in front of the camera, which is no small feat! I was so worried I would hate how I looked, but I just look like the happiest version of myself thanks to her easy prompts and general vibe. I recommend her to anyone!

  So happy we hired Porter

  The short version of this review: Porter was easy to work with, the photos are amazing, and we genuinely had fun taking them. I would hire Porter again in a second - I can't recommend her enough!
  
  The (very) long version: We needed a photographer for our small, backyard covid wedding and Porter was PERFECT. Here are just a few reasons I would recommend her to anyone:
  
  -Taking portraits with Porter was SO FUN! My partner and I both dislike having our photos taken and expected to feel uncomfortable, but Porter had us laughing within minutes! She struck a great balance between giving us direction when we wanted it (which we did!) and following our lead when we didn't. The photos really capture our personalities and it's obvious we were having fun.
  
  -The photos themselves are amazing. We didn't want that blown-out look that's popular with wedding photography. Porter's photos are rich and saturated and gorgeous. The editing highlights the little details and the fall colors without looking unrealistic. It was exactly what we were looking for!
  
  -Porter was extremely communicative. We planned our wedding from out-of-state in only two months. Porter was quick with email responses and made time to chat when I had questions, which made everything easy. She was friendly, professional, asked us lots of questions about what we wanted, and was clear about what to expect from her. She even gave me advice when I asked her for makeup tips that would look good in photos! She really went above and beyond the whole way.
  
  -As a plus-sized woman, I was nervous about feeling comfortable and the photos being both realistic and flattering. Porter sent me several examples of photos she'd done with plus sized brides and really put my mind at ease. It's hard to be open about that, and I REALLY appreciated that Porter took me seriously without making a huge deal out of it. Honestly, I was hoping to like one or two photos enough to print, but I love them ALL!
  
  -She charges by the hour, so we didn't have to hire someone for the full day when our wedding was only about 90 minutes. Her rates are competitive and she worked with us to stay within our budget.
  
  -She took covid precautions seriously and was very respectful of our and our guests' comfort levels.
  
  -Porter had the photos done in two weeks!
  
  Hire Porter - I promise you'll be glad you did!

  A Wedding in the Time of COVID-19

  I had been following Porter Watkins Photography on Instagram for a while and I love how she has the mix of artistic yet intimate moments in her photography style. She was originally scheduled to take my wedding pictures on April 11th. However, due to COVID concerns, my original wedding venue cancelled in Washington DC and I was disappointed that I would not be working with Porter.
  
  With the more unknowns cropping every day, we decided to move our intimate wedding celebration to my parents’ backyard in Northern Virginia with our immediate family by our side on March 20, 2020. Though it was not the wedding I planned for months, I was still able to marry the man I love. I reached out to Porter 72 hours before the wedding, hoping she would be available for this reimagined ceremony.
  
  Lucky for me, she was available. Her process made everything easy and stress-free. Though it was short notice, she was happy to help and calmed me down during our first phone conversation. Oh, and I accidentally paid her a little extra and she sent me the additional payment back right away. How many people would do that?!
  
  
  On our wedding day, she arrived early to check out the neighborhood and got to work right away. My now-husband and I are two people who do not like being in front of the camera, but I knew it was important to capture our wedding. Porter put us at ease and was able to capture very special moments. No one could tell in some of these pictures that we got married in my parents’ yard. Moreover, she was on time, responsive, and supportive through all the unique challenges.
  
  With her professionalism and talent, I would highly recommend picking her for your photography needs. Thank you so much for everything!

  Gorgeous shots of our elopement

  Porter was really great, photographing our tiny elopement! We did couple's shots at the botanical garden and the west side of the Capitol, and then she took photos of the ceremony on a sidewalk in the shade of the Capitol. Porter was very professional and prepared, and she made sure to ask for, and take photos of, the various configurations of family members that we wanted. She was also patient while we waited for our out-of-town family, who'd gotten lost, to arrive. We booked a two-hour appointment, but ended up finishing a little early. She had 119 color photos for us to download nine days later. They are a wonderful reminder of our celebration and we love how they turned out!

  Wonderful! Recommend in a heartbeat

  Porter was fantastic! We are so happy we worked with her for our tiny wedding of 10 people. She was super responsive and a great communicator in the lead up to the event. She was flexible when we changed our plans a few times in the lead up. Her photographs were beautiful - we could not be more pleased! And for two people who do not particularly enjoy posing for the camera, her bubbly and chilled-out personality made us feel totally comfortable and at ease, as if we were just hanging out with a friend rather than creating portraits to hang over the fireplace for years to come. She was perfect from our point of view!

  I first saw Porter's photography as a groomsman in a friend's wedding, and I thought she did such great work that my wife and I hired her to photograph our own recent wedding in Annapolis.
  
  Porter takes absolutely amazing pictures, but also does a great job at getting everyone together for the wedding party and family photos, which can be a real challenge. She is also very responsive to calls and emails, and got us our pictures back in almost no time at all.
  
  Seriously, I cannot recommend Porter enough!

  We were so happy with our choice for Porter. We wanted beautiful weddings photos, that weren't cheesy or overdone. We loved how Porter beautifully captures the emotion of a moment. For us she did just that. We loved our engagement photos, and our weddings photos were absolutely stunning. She made us comfortable to work with and was able to get all of the looks that we wanted, and some pictures we never thought we'd be lucky enough to have. We can't recommend Porter highly enough. Her photos are artistic, with a beautiful finish, and are so beautiful that we know we will treasure them for years to come. Thank you so much Porter for your incredible work!

  Porter photographed our wedding a few weeks ago as well as a complimentary engagement photo session several months prior to that. She was by far our favorite wedding vendor of everyone we worked with and I would not hesitate to recommend her services to anyone. Porter is the perfect mix of very organized/responsive/confidant and very down to earth/laid back/fun to be around. Her style of letting people be themselves and capturing candid shots rather than forcing lots of posed photos enabled us to be relaxed and have fun during photo sessions and on our wedding day. After the wedding I told my fiancé that "I hardly noticed Porter" and I meant that as the highest compliment - she blended into the background and did not interfere with the festivities at all yet managed to capture some great shots. She even put together a little photo collage/video for us for no extra charge which I absolutely love and can't stop watching.

  We were introduced to Porter by our friends, who were really happy with their wedding shoot. We loved the fact that she mapped out the photo shoot venue in advance. She is a friendly person to work with and that made us comfortable throughout the shoot. She was quick with taking shots and produced awesome results. We love our wedding photographs.

  Porter was amazing. From the engagement photos all the way to our wedding, she was not only wonderful to work with, she also gave us amazing photos. She was super laid back about taking photographs -- we keep talking about how she was the perfect person to have be around us the entire wedding day! We have gotten a ton compliments on our photographs -- there are so many that I love that I don't know which ones to choose to print. (A good problem to have ha). She captured so many amazing moments, I really can't say enough good things about her. Highly recommend!

We had to reschedule our engagement session at the last minute because of the weather, and Porter quickly rescheduled our session for the next weekend. During our wedding, Porter flew through all the portrait photos, which allowed us to actually spend time at our cocktail hour. Both times we received our photos within two weeks.
  
  Porter is very easygoing. She never makes you feel awkward or uncomfortable when she is taking your photo. In fact, it was a lot of fun!
  
  Porter captures a unique and gorgeous perspective in all of her work. Her photography is innovative and fresh; she takes the ordinary and turns it into the extraordinary. We truly expect to see her work in a magazine someday. We are so thrilled that we found Porter and highly recommend her.

  My fiance and I did both our engagement and wedding photos with Porter. I literally could not be more happy with my choice. She did an excellent job of getting all of the essential photos that you need for a wedding along with some absolutely gorgeous artistic shots.

  Porter was exactly the photographer we needed. We were looking for someone with a photojournalist's eye, and who would be comfortable with our very low-key, nontraditional event. Porter totally embraced it, and understood exactly what our priorities were (we didn't want a ton of posed group shots; we did want good portraits, and lots of photojournalistic candids, and shots of all of the details). She did all of that, beautifully. She also made the shoot painless for my husband, who hates having his picture taken -- she put us both completely at ease.
  
  We appreciated so much Porter's friendly, down-to-earth approach. She's incredibly easy to work with, and very responsive and professional. She was also extraordinarily supportive, patient and flexible with her schedule when our venue backed out on us at the last minute and we had to change the time and location of the wedding.
  
  We feel so lucky to have been able to work with Porter as she is embarking on her photography career. She is enormously talented, and we feel certain that one of these days, we'll be able to point to her work and say, "The famous Porter Watkins shot our wedding when she was just starting out!"

  We feel so lucky to have been able to work with Porter as she is embarking on her photography career. She is enormously talented, and we feel certain that one of these days, we'll be able to point to her work and say, "The famous Porter Watkins shot our wedding when she was just starting out!"

  Porter Watkins is a fabulous photographer and a great person to work with. She wrangled my 50+ person family into pictures in less than 30 minutes, she gave my new husband and I some time to ourselves and she totally fit right in with the guests. I cannot express how happy I am I found her and our pictures are beautiful and timeless. You can't go wrong with Porter, I promise.

  Porter was great to work with! She took our engagement photos for us. We weren't sure what we wanted as far as location and didn't have many ideas, so Porter made some suggestions and we ended up with a great set of engagement photos! We met Porter on a Sunday night and she was very friendly, easy to talk to and made it easy for us to be comfortable while taking our photos! (Which is SO important!) She had some really great ideas for photos that are out of the norm, and did a wonderful job of placing us in locations to really get a great shot, and has a total gift with finding perfect lighting. She had our photos touched up and a few posted to a blog within a day or two, and we had our final shots shortly after! We had a wonderful experience with Porter and recommend her to anyone looking for a photographer who does great work and makes you feel comfortable!

  Porter did a great job photographing our June 2011 wedding. To be honest, we were a little nervous when booking her because she hadn't done that many weddings before and so had relatively few example pics to show. But the rest of her photography was beautiful and eye-catching, so we decided to take a chance.
  
  That was a really good decision. Porter was easy to work with, liased with us and with our coordinator really well, and dealt with wrangling family into shots with ease. She was incredibly willing to work with what we wanted out of the day's photographs, and she did an amazing job. I love that the pictures she took aren't cookie-cutter wedding photographs. Instead, they perfectly represent the tone of the wedding and our unique day. I would hire her again in a second!
