Perfect Reception Mobile DJ Service

The best "review" I receive is at the end of a wedding reception. If the couple comes over and thanks me for making their day perfect, I know I did my job. And if the bride asks if she can give me a hug, I know I really hit it out of the park (I get lots of those). Another indicator is when guests tell me, "this is the best wedding reception I've ever been to," and "I wish you had been the DJ at MY wedding."

I fully recognize that a couple's Wedding Day is the biggest day of their lives, and have a passion for making it the best that it can be. I achieve this in part by arriving on time, being fully prepared, and never being satisfied with "good enough."

I am a firm believer that little things are big things in disguise, and nowhere is this more true than during a wedding. The measure of a DJ/emcee is how well these little details are handled. So I place a high priority on getting things right, whether big or little. It's what my wife and I wanted on our Wedding Day.

More than any other wedding vendor, your choice of DJ will determine whether your party is a blast or one that's soon forgotten. The most important quality to look for in a mobile DJ is experience. It shows that they're serious about what they do, trustworthy, and good enough to earn referrals. I was a radio personality for 17 years, including a stint hosting morning drive. Later I began mobile DJ'ing on the side, and am still going strong.

In addition to weddings, I frequently DJ at school parties and have earned the trust of several school administrators who hire me year after year.

Here’s what I bring to the table as a wedding DJ/MC:

Planning. I take what I do very seriously, and put hours of preparation into every wedding. I arrive with a carefully-constructed itinerary (aka “cheat sheet”) so there’s no winging it. I also have playlists created for Cocktail Hour, dinner, the parent dances, and open dancing tailored to that wedding, based on my conversations with the couple and their completed planning forms. A key goal of mine is for my couples to be able to relax and enjoy their wedding, rather than be thinking “OK what are we doing next, and how is this going to work, and does the DJ know?”

Personality. I have been told by many people that as soon as I began speaking on the mike, their reaction was “dang, this guy’s good.” I guess that comes from my 16 years as an on-air DJ, coupled with nearly 30 years as a mobile DJ. I would describe my personality as “laid-back but with energy and a pro polish, taking what I do seriously but having fun along the way.”

There’s a DJ personality spectrum – on one end is “robotic and boring,” and on the opposite end is “over-the-top and obnoxious” because they are trying to be the star of the show. I feel I play it right down the middle. My approach is that the bride and groom are the stars of the show, and the wedding party is their supporting cast. That’s where I shine the spotlight. The guests are not there to see and hear me. But at the same time, I don’t shy from my role as emcee.

Unique ideas. I often dismiss tables with a game I call “Who Wants To Eat Next.” The wedding party and parents tables go first, and everyone else plays the game. I pose trivia questions that the bride & groom have provided me about the two of them. Whoever guesses right is next at the buffet, along with their table mates. I use music cues from Who Wants To Be A Millionaire to give things a highly-produced feel. It’s fun seeing people be a hero to the other guests at their table, and the guests enjoy learning some fun nuggets of knowledge about the bride & groom. Some couples prefer instead having me play TV show themes for the guests to guess. Either way, I get tons of compliments. Of course we can dismiss tables in a more traditional way. It’s totally up to the couple.

A premium sound system. The speakers are nine feet tall and contain 36 individual drivers PLUS two 18” subwoofers. Your favorite jams will never sound better, and there’s more than enough power to cover any size group / room.

Lighting. So I have two Gigbar 2s and a dozen wireless uplights, all coordinated via a wireless intelligent lighting controller. Also six tube lights and a 20-inch mirrorball. It all adds up to a dazzling light show.

Dependability / trustworthiness. I have DJ’d around 700 weddings and have never once bailed on a couple or sent someone else in my place. My father passed away on a Saturday morning and I had two weddings that weekend. I was there for both and hit it out of the park both times. I recognize fully that my couples are counting on me to be there on the biggest day of their lives, so I will be there come hell or high water.
