About

Shawn Cirkiel’s flagship restaurant, Parkside, opened on Austin’s historic 6th Street in 2008 and first introduced the “farm-to-table” concept long before it became commonplace in town. The restaurant quickly became a major influence in Austin’s growing culinary landscape as the city’s first gastropub, and set the standard for local, sustainable dining. Parkside’s seasonally changing menu offers classic American fare, elevated with the highest quality, locally-sourced and sustainably grown products.

Parkside is also known for its extensive raw bar and superior selection of oysters from all over the country. Now a dining destination for locals and tourists alike, Parkside’s ingredient-driven menu, convivial setting and consistent service have made the restaurant a 6th Street landmark.

Parkside’s private dining and event spaces are perfect for any occasion in the heart of Downtown Austin. We can accommodate groups large or small for seated dinners, dinner buffets, and cocktail parties. It is a prime location for rehearsal dinners, birthdays, wedding receptions, corporate events, luncheons, happy hour – the list goes on!

We had both our ceremony and reception at Parkside and it was everything I imagined it would be. When booking this venue you are provided the entire 2nd floor. We had the reception in the main room and then a cocktail hour while they turned it over for the wedding. I worked with Danielle and she couldn't have been easier to work with. She responded to my emails very quickly and there was one mixup in communication but she was quick to work with the Director of Events and remedy the situation. Food and staff were terrific and I really could not have asked for a more pleasant experience. I definitely would recommend Parkside if you want a simple experience and don't want to worry about much.

Our contact there (Danielle) was great, but the execution of the event was actually pretty disappointing. 5 stars for Danielle and the venue itself, which is great (private space, private bathrooms, nice patio, bar separate from dance floor) but 1 star for the food service. She admitted after that our size (130) was probably too large to do the passed appetizers we requested, but it was actually a bit embarrassing to have people line up for the two stations we had because the passed food wasn't coming out fast enough, or at all, or was left on a tray in some random corner, which I saw several times and asked them to pass and several times my request (as the bride) was ignored. Also, the food itself wasn't great, which was surprising since Parkside restaurant has such a great reputation. I didn't love anything we got, but most disturbing was that I think the chicken in the chicken cocktail sandwiches was undercooked. No one got sick (that I know of) but I don't think anyone went back for seconds of it :/

We used Parkside for our wedding reception. The space was beautiful and worked really well for a cocktail hour. Our guests really liked the separation of the spaces and people watching on the balcony. The food was pretty good, however, not up to Parkside standards (we frequently eat at the restaurant). The service was shaky but I understand that we were a larger party and at the top end of their suggested size (90). They served raw sliders during the cocktail hour and the courses seemed rushed. Our guests had to continually get up during dinner to go back to the bar. They allowed us to bring outside dessert in for a fee, which was nice. But did not give the guests the choice like we wanted. I would recommend them for a smaller party or a buffet style dinner. In my opinion, they are not a large enough venue to do a seated dinner for a group larger than 50 people.
