Sonja and Miki are absolutely excellent - we recommend them wholeheartedly for your wedding! We hired Sonja and Miki for our wedding in October at the Athenaeum at Caltech and also did our engagement photoshoot with them. They are true professionals and made us feel at ease through both shoots. We are so impressed by how well our photos turned out! We received more than 2000 beautifully edited photos within 3 weeks of our wedding, and our family and friends have loved going through them. Miki and Sonja went above and beyond for our July 2025 wedding at Caltech, from getting to know them during the planning process where they made us feel so at ease to our wedding weekend where they captured such unique and beautiful shots we couldn’t have dreamt of! They made our engagement shoot at El Matador Beach in Malibu exciting and effortless which was reflected in our photos. They have a calming presence which is essential for any bride and groom. They also led and orchestrated shots and coordinated extremely well with the planners and videographers, a talent often overlooked. Their style was refined and sophisticated but also joyful, and they knew our venue inside out and found gorgeous, private locations for our photos. Most of all, they are kind, compassionate people who know how to get the job done while being a total JOY to work with, which is critical as you spend the most amount of your wedding day with them by your side. We highly recommend Miki and Sonja - booking them was the BEST wedding decision we made!

A true highlight of our wedding day was getting to work with Miki and Sonja. They were so lovely to work with and made us feel extremely comfortable in front of the camera (we are not naturals). They have a great artistic eye and the photos turned out AMAZING - we only wish we had more wall space in our house to frame all of the incredible photos they took.

My now-husband and I chose Miki and Sonja as our photographer for our September 2024 wedding, and it was absolutely one of the best decisions we made for the wedding!

Miki and Sonja were referred to us by a friend who had been recently married. Prior to this, we had scoured through what felt like dozens of wedding photographers, and nobody felt quite right. In searching for a photographer, we knew that we wanted at least two shooters (our wedding had 180 guests), we wanted a team that was willing to go to multiple locations on the big day, and we didn’t want somebody who would nickel and dime us for every additional photo. Also, while there are many talented photographers in LA who can deliver a lovely wedding photo, not many can deliver on a cohesive, timeless wedding album — and the latter was what we were looking for.

We knew relatively quickly that Miki and Sonja were the right team for our wedding. Their portfolio was stunning and a mix of candid and posed shots, and they had clearly covered a wide range of different types of weddings. They were absolutely lovely on the initial zoom call and were very happy to work with us on the logistics of the big day. The most important thing to us, however, was that they were a cohesive team. As husband and wife, they communicated with one another flawlessly and were united in executing on our shared vision. This was in direct contrast to many other photographers we reached out to who had an anonymous second shooter, and who were unclear on if they would personally be editing our wedding album. Miki and Sonja promised that they would be the ones to edit, and as they were the ones who would attend our wedding, they would be in the best position to deliver photos that best represented our day.

We signed them on after the zoom call and didn’t need to do much prior to the wedding beyond filling out a list of desired portraits. Our wedding planner coordinated the rest with Miki and Sonja directly. On the day of the wedding, they were punctual, professional, and an absolute pleasure to be around. They breezed through our list of desired shots with incredible efficiency and left no stone unturned. The lighting after the ceremony was particularly tricky, making our portrait session a little difficult, but they were able to adapt and get what they needed. During our couples’ session, they were very creative and gave us a wide range of different shots. Sonja was such a trooper — for many of the more romantic shots, she would fling my veil into the air and then book it out of frame!

Fast forward a few months, and Miki and Sonja delivered the wedding album of our dreams. There were over two thousand photos (insane, considering we had been offered more expensive packages from other photographers for 500 shots), and this included getting ready photos, family portraits, individual portraits, couples session, ceremony, wedding party shots, and reception. My husband and I and all of our family and friends loved going through the album and reliving the day. The quality of the images was excellent, and of course they printed beautifully. They really did manage to capture the essence of the day.

I could not have been happier with Miki and Sonja as our wedding photographers. My only regret is that we did not book them for the engagement session, as we had already booked someone else for that prior to hearing about them! Thank you Miki and Sonja! We are grateful that you captured such an important day for us.

I am writing this review wayyyy too late (a little over 2 years after my wedding) and it has been eating me away inside because I am in awe of my gorgeous wedding photos and need to give Miki & Sonja all the praise they deserve. Their photos are absolutely beautiful and I find myself constantly looking at them to bask in that perfect day over and over again.
As a wedding planner myself, I knew I needed a photographer that could be flexible with all my crazy ideas. Miki and Sonja are the absolute sweetest and were game for everything. When I ran a bit behind schedule on the day getting ready, they were on it and got through all the family photos as quickly and seamlessly as possible while still getting some glorious glamour shots of myself as we were hustling to get it all done. My husband isn’t the most comfortable in front of the camera and hates taking posed photos, Miki and Sonja made it quick and seamless for him. Miki had an amazing idea during our romantic photos to pose like The Freewheelin’ Bob Dylan album cover, it made my husband instantly relax and get into the idea of capturing this photo and we had so much fun doing so!
One thing that was super important to me besides the style and quality of the photos was I wanted someone who was great at capturing candids. The candids are some of my favorite photos of the day, especially during the reception when I cut off my hair and came back out in a sequin jumpsuit. They captured the best reactions and some of them still make me laugh and smile.
Miki and Sonja are the utmost professionals and truly truly talented. They went along with my crazy vision and ideas, captured my day perfectly and I will be forever grateful to them. 10/10 recommend forever and ever.

Miki and Sonja were a dream to work with. From the very beginning, they brought a sense of calm and professionalism that made everything feel effortless. Their pleasant demeanor was just the icing on the cake. What truly stood out were the timelessness of our photos.

Miki and Sonja were so wonderful to work with. They really put me and my wife at ease at both our engagement shoot and during our wedding. We unknowingly chose a super tourist-heavy/busy area for our engagement shoot and brought our very hyper puppy to be included in the photos and they somehow managed to get us some beautiful photos of our little family! Our wedding day was very busy and we booked some extra time for photos and we do not regret that one bit. Miki and Sonja captured all of our beautiful moments and worked very well as a team. They edited the pictures beautifully and even provided us with all the raw photos (literally several thousand!) within a month of the wedding!

This is a review for my consultation with Sonja. I came across the work of Miki & Sonja while researching photographers who have shot weddings at the Skirball Cultural Center. They are a husband and wife couple based in LA. They went to photography school, so they have a deep knowledge and a foundation based in film (though they shoot mostly digital now, like most photographers). Their examples were stunning, and Sonja was clear and responsive in our communications. I would highly recommend you consider them for your wedding photography. They come across as professionals who really know their photography.

Miki and Sonja did an incredible job photographing our wedding at The London Hotel and were so easy to work with. We felt immediately comfortable with them both and could tell that that feeling was reflected in the photos. It rained the day of our wedding, and they were incredibly flexible and still able to make some outdoor photos happen. We had some tough family dynamics to navigate with wedding portraits the day of, and they were careful and attuned to those needs.

My husband and I learned about Miki and Sonja through our reception venue preferred vendor list. They were the first photographers we hired, and needless to say we had an instant connection with them. They have over 20 years of experience, and we loved their dynamic as they worked together. They were also very responsive to emails, so it felt reassuring to communicate with them.

We felt immediately comfortable around Miki and Sonja when we first met them in person for our engagement photo shoot. That was one of our favorite days of our engagement. They completely understood our vision and found an AMAZING location for the photo shoot that exceeded our expectations. It was even better than the vision.

On our wedding day, I barely noticed their presence. They had tons of amazing shots without taking away from the moment. They also did not interfere with each other's photos nor the videographer (who we hired from a different company).

I have nothing but positive things to say about Miki and Sonja. They are not only professional, but approachable and easy to work with. I would hire them again in a heartbeat!
