For over 20 years, Matthew Cavanaugh Photography, a photography business based in Greenfield, Massachusetts, has been capturing the love stories of many couples on their wedding days. Matthew Cavanaugh, a word-class photojournalist, mainly focuses on capturing the spontaneous and natural moments as they occur between couples along with their guests. However, he also occasionally asks couples and their guests to pose in order to get a few posed shots. Those are kept to a minimum to ensure the wedding party is free to enjoy themselves and celebrate the special day without worrying about taking photographs.
Services Offered
Matthew Cavanaugh Photography offers couples the choice of choosing digital files, prints, or proofs of their wedding photography. Additionally, photography services are available, including additional hours, high-resolution images, liability insurance, or a second shooter. If the couple desires, an engagement shoot can be selected as well.

What primary photographic style do you identify with?
I truly do not have enough compliments for Matthew. It's rare to work with someone who is so talented and on-the-ball while being so unassuming and approachable. I wouldn't say that I love being photographed, but Matthew is really talented at setting people at ease. He really captured the feel of our wedding day without imposing or forcing anything, so when I look at the pictures I remember the wedding, not the photographer. I would 12/10 hire him again, and would recommend really trusting his suggestions.

Perfect Photographer
The perfect photographer. Prior to hiring Matthew my husband and I expressed wanting a warm, loving, and home-y vibe to all of our photos because we knew that's the atmosphere we were curating for our day. Matthew delivered to the fullest. He was so helpful the entire day and every moment leading up to it. He got so many incredible photos and my husband and I cannot stop looking at them. We cannot wait to decorate our home with them. Our family and friends cannot stop saying how beautiful the photos are and how jealous they are that they didn't hire him for their weddings!

World-Class Engagement Photography!
Wow, we absolutely LOVED the photos from our engagement session with Matthew!!! Matthew expertly captured the gorgeous setting and mountain vistas of the Berkshires and the photos came out exactly as I envisioned! My fiancé and I are so grateful to have beautiful timeless portraits that we’ll treasure for the rest of our lives. Best Photographer in the valley
Matthew is wonderful. On our first phone conversation we immediately knew that Matthew was the perfect photographer for us. Amazing, warm, professional photographer
We worked with Matthew for a country wedding in central MA, and he was absolutely phenomenal! Matthew was so pleasant to worth with, flexible, and worked easily with everyone, even though some of our guests are not the most easy to photograph. Would recommend him to all my friends, and it's also nice to support local :)

dependable, professional, perfect pictures
Matthew's keen attention, stamina, and accommodating personality helped make our day perfect. We've haven't had such quality photos before (my sister took our engagement photos on my iPhone), and I am so glad we could book someone of his caliber.
I especially appreciated the conversation we had a few days before the ceremony, where we discussed our itinerary in detail. We were getting ready in different locations and he drove to both locations before meeting us in the main venue. Of all the stressful details of the wedding, Matthew was someone we never had to worry about.

My husband and I had an amazing experience working with Matthew! Not only does he take absolutely incredible photos but he is kind, thoughtful and professional. Matthew ensured every detail was discussed leading up to the wedding so that we were confident the meaningful moments we experienced were captured. My husband is a bit camera shy and Matthew eased his worries with patience and sensitivity, and for this we can not thank him enough. Amazing to work with, incredibly kind
Matthew Cavanaugh is not only an incredible photographer, but a genuinely great person. Several family members asked us after the wedding if he was a friend. He captured some truly special moments. A little while into our reception, Matthew grabbed us for a quick series of photos in the setting sun. These turned out to be some of the most loved photos from the night!

Amazing experience

My husband and I could not have been more pleased to have Matthew photograph our wedding. He was with us throughout the process, helped us figure out exactly what we wanted, and worked in the background the day of to make sure the everything went smoothly. His pedigree as a photojournalist showed - he melted in to the background during private moments, and took absolutely stellar photos. There is, quite literally, nothing we'd have changed. Matthew was such a pleasure to work with. We had an army of people in our wedding, and so many cooks in the kitchen when it came to photos, and he handled everything with kindness and a sense of humor. He made Pat and I feel extremely comfortable and guided us through the entire process. You can contract with Matthew for an additional photographer, which worked well for our healthy-sized guest list, and him and Kate captured the most magical, intimate, unforgettable moments of the day. So much love and gratitude to Matthew. I wish we could do it all again so we can hang some more!

Matthew was all we could have asked for and more. He was always available to answer questions or give instructions leading up to our big day and worked nonstop for us the day of. We received our highlights just a few weeks after the wedding and all the rest a couple weeks later. I heard many stories from friends and family who had wished they made more of an investment in their wedding photographer. We will cherish our photos forever and are so glad we spent the extra money to get the quality we wanted. Thanks again Matthew!

Matt is the best. I would not think twice before hiring him again for any event. He is such a pleasant and calming presence on your wedding day and helps you enjoy your day. Most times though, you can barely even tell he's there and yet he manages to capture some beautiful moments that I would not have even expected to have been captured. His pictures are gorgeous and Chris and I had so many wonderful shots of us to choose from to frame in our home. I cannot recommend him enough.

We couldn't have been happier to have Matthew as our wedding photographer. Not only did he produce beautiful work, but he was very accommodating in listening to our ideas to make our photos feel intimate and personal. On wedding day, he helped us to feel calm and grounded, and provided the perfect amount of direction—enough to help us look our best while not taking away from the emotion and importance of the moment. Matthew was AMAZING to work with. He was very professional during the entire process and wasn't obtrusive at all! I loved that he was offered suggestions through out, and while we were getting ready at one of the bridesmaid's cabin he even found the fan switch to keep us all cool! Seems like a little thing, but when you are a stressed out starting to sweat bride, it's the little things that matter! I would highly recommend him!
Who wouldn't want to be photographed by a skilled professional who used to photograph Presidents for a living?! Matthew's images are ones you'll treasure in 5, 10 and 20 years. He has a fantastic eye for details AND the forest through the trees.
