Josias River Farm is an exceptional farm wedding venue located in Cape Neddick, Maine. This breathtaking 250-year-old farm offers couples and their loved ones over 20 acres of scenic apple orchards, pastures, and forests. Josias River Farm features a rustic 1850’s event barn surrounded by an array of stone walls, rail fences, and vibrant perennial beds.

Facilities and Capacity
Josias River Farm offers couples a variety of charming event spaces to host their sacred ceremony and special celebration of love. Couples are invited to conduct their wedding ceremony outdoors beneath a stunning arbor, surrounded by the serenity of their onsite pond. Couples also have the option to hold their wedding ceremony with up to 200 loved ones inside Josias River Farm’s event barn. This barn can also hold up to 110 seated guests for a reception dinner.

This venue’s premier event barn dates back to the 1850s and features a stone foundation and classic wooden paneling. Inside the barn, you’ll find traditional vaulted ceilings with elegant chandeliers suspended from decoratively lit wooden beam rafters. A loft area sits perched above the central dance floor - perfect as a designated area for additional reception dining tables and seating. A charming, rustic dry-bar is also situated in the event barn - perfect for cocktail hours and subsequent receptions.

Couples can also set up a reception tent on three acres of pristine, manicured lawn, surrounded by 17 acres of forest along the banks of the Josias River. Couples have access to a three-season porch, and a get-ready powder room.

Wonderful Venue

We opted for the elopement package here and it couldn't have been a better experience + option for our wedding vision! Laura and Charles were incredibly kind and easy to work with and I can't thank them enough.

Laura was on top of any communications leading up to the event and helped answer my questions + make suggestions to have the day go as smoothly as possible. And the pricing is incredibly reasonable for anyone seeking a smaller get together.

Best Day Ever

We had our wedding at JRF in June 2022, and I can't overstate how AMAZING the experience was. Our wedding was everything that we had been dreaming of, and it wouldn't have been possible anywhere else.

Where do I start? From the day that we booked in March 2021, Laura was so communicative and supportive. She answered every question I had, and checked in regularly over the year and a half we were planning. She made us feel so special, and like our day really, really mattered to them. When it came time for our wedding, Laura and Charlie welcomed us as their guests for the entire weekend. They were so kind and accommodating, going above and beyond to make sure that everything went perfectly. We were so confident in their support that we barely thought about logistics on the day of, despite not having a wedding planner.

The property is absolutely stunning. It's the perfect balance of rustic structures and natural beauty, the barn and farmhouse situated perfectly among the lush greenery, gorgeous flowers, tall trees, and rushing river. The beauty of the setting definitely took some pressure off of us when it came to decor, and our guests couldn't stop talking about how dreamy it was.

The layout of the venue offers a ton of options for your day, depending on what kind of flow you want. We had our ceremony in the orchard, our cocktail hour in the garden, dinner on the lawn, and dancing in the barn. I've never been to a venue that offers so many options for how each part of your day can flow into another. Laura really wanted to help us customize our experience, and was always on hand to offer ideas and advice.

All in all, we had the most perfect wedding day ever, and we wouldn't have been able to do it without Laura and Charlie at JRF. Thank you SO SO much for everything, we will remember our experience at JRF for a lifetime.

Beautiful venue, amazing vendors

This venue is one of the most beautiful places I have ever been to, and I'm not just biased ;) The barn is rustic, wonderful, and full of lights, the yard is spacious and full of beautiful trees and flowers (with LOTS of room for activities), and the goat pen was a huge hit amongst our friends. And the Tangerini's were a dream to work with. They were so helpful with recommending and directing vendors, with set up, where people should park, and with the clean up. Laura was also great when it came to planning out how the wedding should proceed and had awesome suggestions. What an amazing duo, they are two of the nicest people I have ever met and I am so thankful that they are the people that are behind this venue, the whole experience was beautiful beyond words.

Perfect for our vision

My fiance and I met with Laura this past weekend and toured the property. I instantly fell in love with this venue and couldn't imagine having our wedding anywhere else but we had another tour booked up the road for the next day. Laura knew that my fiance's mom would be joining us the next day and asked if we wanted to bring her by so she could see the venue as well. This was perfect since his mom will be a huge part in the planning process of our wedding!

Our appointment at the other vendor took longer then planned and Laura kindly checked in with us and was very flexible for when we were showing up. Her and her husband are so sweet and we decided to book our wedding with Josiah's River Farm for 10/17/2020! We are looking forward to beginning our future together there and we are so thankful for their kindness and flexibility.

A Stunning Rustic Wedding Venue!

My husband and I were fortunate enough to have our wedding at Josias River Farm this past June 2019. It could not have been better! First off, the owners, Laura and Charlie, were incredible to work with. They truly cared about our vision for the day and were so easy-going along the way. They were always very responsive and did not mind us stopping in on various occasions to hash out certain details. One of the best parts of JRF is that we were were really able to make it our own to reflect us as a couple--something very important to us during our search.

The property itself is beautiful (one of the many reasons we chose to be married here)! And the farm house was ideal for getting ready with my mother and bridesmaids prior to the ceremony. We cannot say enough about JRF and would highly recommend to anyone considering hosting an event here.

Wedding Weekend of our Dreams

I cannot say enough about the beautiful Josias River Farm! I feel it does need to be stated the my review is speaking mostly to the property because new owners have taken it on since our August wedding! However, in my few, brief interactions with Laura, she was friendly, responsive and so kind! The property at the farm made our wedding day exactly all that we wanted it to be. Being able to spend the whole weekend on site and create all of our memories in such a beautiful space was amazing. We hosted our rehearsal dinner inside the barn despite pouring rain, got ready in the bright and roomy side rooms of the house, said “I do” in the barn as the rain clouds hovered, dined and drank under a tent behind the vegetable garden and danced the night away in the barn! The flexibility with the weather and the endless setup options made the planning so easy. A number of our guests said “how did you find this place,” “this place is incredible,” and so on! Even family members who are not very observant spoke highly of the grounds. We LOVED every second of our wedding weekend and that was due, in large part, to having it at Josias River Farm.

Elegance and approachability - the best of both worlds

Josias River Farm is an absolute gem of a wedding location. It offers the perfect combination of elegance and approachability. We wanted a place where our guests could feel both right-at-home and "something special" - and Josias River Farm was just that. The property itself is immaculate, and the owners take great care to ensure every detail is accounted for and that you, as a couple, feel like the Farm is especially yours for the weekend. The flexibility the venue provides was also really important to us. We loved being able to choose our own vendors for each part of the wedding. We couldn't be happier with the choice of Josias River Farm for our special day!

Absolutely stunning setting! Our guests told us what a beautiful wedding venue we chose and how much fun they had. We had lots of time for family and friends by having everything at one location. Since many traveled to Maine ( for some guests it was a first, but not last visit ), it was important to us to have them love Maine as much as we do. Richard and Nancy Schmid are wonderful hosts and the property provides a nice variety of areas for ceremony, coctails, dinner and reception.

Barn weddings are in! Richard and Nancy have the most perfect venue to make all your wedding day dreams come true! I fell in love with their farm the second I stepped foot on it. It is filled with simple elegant rustic charm that provides a blank canvas for all the details and décor that your heart desires!

Aside from the never ending aesthetics of the property, Richard and Nancy are undeniably some of the most genuine people I have ever met! They open their home for use to the wedding party for ease of getting ready for the big day or just relaxing in their beautiful den and sunroom. They are true professionals in their trade! They are easy to work with, very prompt with email responses to my never ending list of questions and quite simply, just happy to help and make sure needs are taken care of. Their pricing is fair and competitive compared to other barn venues in the surrounding areas.

Don't wait too long to book because the dates go fast!! I heard of Richard and Nancy's property by word of mouth as they don't do any additional advertising outside of having a Facebook page...but, people are talking! This is the place to get married!

My husband and I met in Maine over 7 years ago, on our 6 year Anniversary we went back to the place we met and he proposed! It didn't take us long to decide that having a Maine Wedding would be the most meaningful, special and perfect option for us. :) For as long as I can remember, I knew I wanted a Farm Wedding, considering I've been wearing Cowboy Boots since I was in diapers...

When we came across Josias River Farm it took my breath away... The pictures showed such a gorgeous setting!! It had everything, a stunning outdoor garden area where the musicians in our family could entertain guests during cocktail hour, and a beautiful barn where we could eat, drink and dance the night away!

Richard and Nancy were a true pleasure to speak with, genuinely two of the nicest people we have ever met! ....
Along with the Farm's Rustic Charm and the adorable goats, it stole our hearts and we booked the Venue, site unseen! We proceeded to plan our Wedding from California (where we currently live)... although there were some challenges, Richard and Nancy were there to answer any question I had, and assured us there was nothing to worry about - boy were they right!!!
After nearly a year of planning, we couldn't have been happier when we arrived to the Farm to begin preparing for our Rustic Farm Wedding. It was a Fairy Tale Wedding, even more beautiful than I could have imagined it!! The day was PERFECT & we had the time of our lives!!
Our guests are still talking about how it was one of the most beautiful and fun weddings they've attended!! :) Since everyone traveled to be there, It's convenience to the airports, beaches and quaint town made it even more appealing!!

We're already trying to figure out how we can have reunion parties there in the years to come!! ;)
