About
Indian Steps is a beautiful, one of a kind historic gem and Native American museum nestled along the Susquehanna River in Airville, Pennsylvania. It was constructed between 1908-1912, by John Edward Vandersloot. He was an avid collector of Native American artifacts and he studied Native American lore. He picked a very significant place to build his summer cabin, and dedicated it as a permanent display of artifacts he collected and in honor of the Native People’s that came before us. There are indeed “Indian Steps” just south of the property. They are footholds carved into the river cliffs that gave the Susquehannock Indians easy access to the river. They are not viewable anymore unfortunately, after construction of the dam in 1911 buried them deep below the waters. We have a gorgeous, open waterfront property, a large pavilion with several picnic tables, and other unique structures available for reservation at a reasonable price. We are a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization.
