About Historic Barns of Nipmoose

Historic Barns of Nipmoose, a rustic chic wedding venue in the upper Hudson River Valley, New York area features three fully restored historic barns and 123 acres of open farmland. A wedding at this venue includes all three of the barns and the surrounding property, including gardens, a pond, an expansive courtyard area and a grove of aspens. Set in an agricultural district, the Nipmoose barns are within easy driving distance of Saratoga Springs, Albany and Troy, NY, as well as Bennington, VT and Williamstown, MA. A long driveway to the barns enhances the privacy of the site.

Facilities and Capacity

The two large barns (the Scottish Barn and German Barn), are ideal locations for wedding receptions. The barns can be used simultaneously, with dinner in one and dancing in the other. The largest of the three barns can accommodate 180 guests for a seated dinner. For a larger event (up to 250 guests) a tent would need to be rented. The smaller Corn Crib can serve as a location for memorabilia, a photo booth, gifts or refreshments. The aspen grove near the Corn Crib is a popular site for holding ceremonies and the great stone wall behind the German Barn is a favorite for romantic photos. Included as well are three charming bathrooms (one of which is handicap accessible), a spacious bridal suite and a Workshop Barn for caterers.

Services Offered
The Historic Barns of Nipmoose provides a list of recommended vendors, but welcomes other vendors as well. Couples may include their pet in their ceremony. Guest parking near the barns can accommodate busses and a large number of cars. Nipmoose staff is onsite for the entire wedding.

History
The Nipmoose Farm, named after the adjacent creek, can be traced back to the late 1700s. The farm, which originally maintained livestock and crops, transitioned to a dairy farm in the early 1900s. Built in the 18th century, the Scottish Barn has a unique timber frame design. The Corn Crib and farmhouse were most likely built in the early 1800s. The Scottish and German barns were moved to the site over a hundred years ago, while the Corn Crib was moved to Nipmoose in 2002, as part of the restoration of the barns. The entire farm is owned by The Persistence Foundation, a non-profit dedicated to land conservation and preservation of agricultural heritage.

We booked the Historic Barns of Nipmoose as our wedding location, before we were even engaged! As soon as we discovered this beautiful barn venue a few years back, we dreamed about booking a wedding date. Being a barn girl from Long Island who was marrying an upstate guys, this venue included both of our loves: barns and upstate beauty.

Working with Barb and Connie was the best part of the experience, and something we miss the most. The barns beauty needs no help, but planning a wedding from out-of-town definitely does, and they made it so easy. We had frequent calls and emails with so many amazing vendor recommendations. We had an open invitation to visit Nipmoose when we made our trips upstate, and were always welcome to bring friends, family and vendors with us to plan and share excitement.

The day of the wedding was easier than we could have ever imagined, and every idea we had came to life in those beautiful barns. The Nipmoose teams greeted us the day of and even helped us pack up the next day when we had to pick up a few remaining items.

The barns are beautiful and truly take your breath away in person. We hope we can have another celebration at Nipmoose one day!

    Our dream venue!

We cannot imagine a more perfect place to have had our wedding. The rustic beauty of the venue is just out of this world – the beautifully preserved barns with fall color and a field of corn husks in the background was exactly what we had envisioned, before we even knew Nipmoose existed. Plus, there’s not one, not two, but three (!) beautiful barns, plus a fourth barn-like structure with bathrooms and space for vendor prep. The problem with most barn wedding venues is that you only get one barn, so there’s usually no attractive rain plan. The peace of mind we got from having a second barn where we could potentially do the ceremony in case of rain was priceless. Barb and Connie were a pleasure to work with, and seamlessly interfaced with our planner and all of our vendors. The crew on the day of the wedding was basically invisible to us, but made everything happen like clockwork. We are so, so happy we got married here. Thank you Nipmoose!

This region is filled with barn wedding venues these days, but the Historic Barns of Nipmoose are really something special. The setting is private and stunning. With three separate barns on the property, couples have a lot of flexibility in how they use them on their special day. As a bonus, couples who get married at Nipmoose have the opportunity to use a large variety of antique and vintage furnishings which are of great value to an event design. As a professional wedding planner, I look for more than just a beautiful space. I appreciate venues that go above and beyond to take great care of their clients. Barbara, Connie and their staff work very hard to make sure each and every wedding exceeds the expectations of the couple. They are an absolute pleasure to work with and I cannot recommend them enough!
