This bakery provided my wedding cake on 12/29/2013. The cake was Beautiful, absolutely stunning. My guests were blown away. The design was complicated but the final product was spot on! My guests ate the leftovers for days after my wedding and it was fantastic until the last bite. Way to Go GATEAUX!!

Gateaux made the perfect grown-up birthday cake for us. It was moist and delicious. I have used them before and when I told one of the attendees where it came from he cursed me because the last thing I brought from Gateaux was so good he said it was like crack to him and he has been addicted since. The cake was no different. There were happy faces all over the room.

I had a cake and dessert emergency and was referred to this bakery who saved the day. I had a small budget and a tight timeframe and they were able to work miracles for me. I needed a cake and a dessert tray for my rehearsal dinner. The cake was beautiful, the tray was empty before I could sample it :( the guests all raved about it. I will use this place again and again for all my important events.

They were extremely flexible with our budget and helped us to create a wedding cake that we would love. We were able to customize each layer with a flavor and filling for no additional cost. The cake turned out beautiful and tasted delicious, too!

Our beauty and the beast themed cake was absolutely beautiful and exactly how I wanted it to look! And it tasted great too!

Gateaux was awesome! Our tasting was phenomenal and they did not pressure us in anyway to book with them after the tasting. The only thing we were bummed about after the amazing tasting was the cake being dry at the wedding. At first, we thought it was dry because we were not able to eat it immediately. Upon asking a several guests what they thought of the cake, they responded saying the taste wasn't bad, but the cake itself was dry. We were so impressed with our tasting, this was a little disappointing that the real thing wasn't exactly what we had hoped for.

We decided to go with Gateaux Bakery after sampling their delicious cakes at a Newport News Bridal Show. They are a relatively new business, so I know there are some growing pains, especially with weddings. I always received prompt response from anyone I emailed or called at the bakery, but it was sometimes difficult to get something back in writing (via contract). When I met them in store, they had a folder with notes, but when I went to make my final payment, a lot of the designs we had discussed weren't documented, so we had to review them then to make sure everything was good to go. The designs ended up coming out as we discussed and the bakery worked with our tight budget to provide cupcakes and just one top cake for us to cut. Our cake was delicious and I appreciated them allowing us to have several different cupcake flavors, but some wedding guests did mention that some flavors were a little dry or a little too sweet. Given the choice again, I would have still gone with them as my cake vendor, but I was a little nervous during the planning that everything would turn out okay!

I ordered cake and mini-cupcakes for my wedding day. The cake tasted fine, although not like I tasted in the store, but the mini cupcakes were overdone. We also ordered 4 flavors of mini cupcakes and only received 3. Kids love mini cupcakes and even they were not eating them.

I gave a tangible picture to this girl along with an emailed picture to her supervisor to make sure we got the style of cake we wanted.We were quoted X amount for decoration and X for the two tiered and paid upfront for it. The cake was supposed to be chocolate cake with white marshmallow fondant with flowers cascading all over. The cake was brought out and my first thought was disappointment.There were about 8 flowers, instead of 60 and it just wasn't what I had wanted.Of course, it was still lovely looking, I was just disappointed.I expressed this to my husband, and he, wanting to make me feel better, brought the cake back in and asked to talk to whomever made the cake. He said that the cake didn't look like what we had wanted and referred back to the picture. The owner of the bakery actually talked to us and said we hadn't paid enough for the amount of decoration- and she said so in such a rude way. My husband sat there and said back to her that this "X" amount of money is what we were quoted, we had talked to a manager, and we were told that this could be done. If we had been told it'd cost more, we would pay more because the style of cake I wanted for my wedding day was what I really wanted and it wasn't our fault that someone had quoted us too low. We asked the owner if there was any way we could get more flowers on and she rudely and loudly complained and we got two large, fake flowers stuck in our cake.
Also, when I say wedding cake, this cake was made only for the bride and groom, so it only served about 15-20 people (the guests got sheet cake).I will never return to Gateaux Bakery because of my experience with the owner.She was flat out rude and mean and I did not appreciate how I was treated as a customer.I'd love to go back simply because of the girl at the counter because she's always sweet, but I am adamant about not giving any more money to the owner because of they way I was treated by her. I would not recommend this bakery to anyone anymore.
